Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Amber (Red Hot Love #1) in Books
Sep 3, 2019
This one started off a little crazy with a lawyer visiting Amber and her families farm to tell them that their dads want to meet them in New York. Amber appears to have never left the farm before to visit big cities and is wowed by some things and horrified by others in the Big Apple.
Amber and Ty certainly rubbed each other the wrong way to start but you could see a tentative connection between them from pretty early on. I actually really liked Ty, and Amber's intuitiveness; the way she picked up on little things and tried to solve problems was great. It was a very good plotline and I loved that part of the story.
And the romance, of course. It was very sweet. I was "aaahh"ing and smiling like a loon with the gentleness of it all. Super cute. Not what I was expecting but I really liked it.
Now I've finished the story, I still find the beginning and that part of the story with the hippie compound a little strange/out there but the rest of the story? I liked it, though I would have liked more band stuff included.
I can't help wondering if Red Hot's story will continue through Emerald and Rose's romances which I will buy and read at some point in the future.

Merissa (11950 KP) rated Daughter of the Sea in Books
Dec 21, 2021 (Updated Jul 9, 2023)
There is a hint of a love triangle in here, with both Lachlan and Walter vying for Effie's affection. Of course, you are pretty sure which way it will go, but the author keeps you guessing until the end.
The pacing is smooth and there are lots of details about how women lived, the whole way of life at that time, plus how Effie doesn't fit in or, really, know what she wants. The story is a slow-burn one in that it moves along quite slowly. However, that gives the reader time to fully immerse themselves in the past.
This was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

Merissa (11950 KP) rated Supermoon: Cade & Sal's Story (The Dark Cities Trilogy #1) in Books
May 20, 2023
This story really starts when Cade is chosen to represent his city in a fight in which there is literally only one winner. It is last one standing (think of Roman gladiators!). Sal is chosen to be one of the human servants who will look after the shifters until such time as they go and fight.
This book is violent, funny, vicious, and hopeful. My heart was in my mouth every time a vampire came near Sal. Cade does a fantastic job of trying to speak to Sal without the vampires knowing. With sweet, yet hot, romance, this book was a delight that I just couldn't put down. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

Glarys has been looking after the Royals for years but time has moved on, and they now have their own lives and families away from the Mansion. Glarys liked Sam when she first spoke to him at Latimus and Lila's bonding ceremony but she thought he was only speaking to her to be nice. Sam wanted to be more than nice but when he suggested they meet up, Glarys suggested he bring Jack. Sam took this to mean she wasn't interested and years passed.
Even during this novella, you not only catch up on the others but also see two deamon attacks by Bakari, which keeps the whole series moving along nicely. It moves along at a fast pace, giving you the story and not lingering over certain acts or thoughts for too long.
For a novella, you get a lot of story -- from romance to PTSD, from deamon attacks to a spa day. Definitely recommended by me, but PLEASE read it in order or you'll get spoilers.
