Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Born of Night (The League: Nemesis Rising #1) in Books

Huh...i thought I'd enjoy this more. It dragged in places and I definitely felt like I was reading something that was written in the nineties. It wasn't modern enough for me romance wise. I like my rough and ready, dirty talking guys and my kick arse gals but other than the occasional scene, it wasn't there.
It had a good premise but it fell short for me. It was too long, too. I get bored by long books.

Goosebumps
If you are looking to read something that will cause goosebumps then this is the one for you as every single story within this collection will leave you chilled to the bone. I loved all the tales but Druid's Wood, Thin Ice, and The Talking Dead were by far my most favorite ones. I highly recommend you read this in the dark while listening to the sounds of thunderstorms to give you the perfect reading experience!!

Clare Parrott (294 KP) rated Savage Secrets (Titan, #4) in Books
Nov 21, 2017 (Updated Nov 21, 2017)
A Must Read, Wow.
This has to be the BEST book in the series so far. Absolutely fantastic military romance. This book is set in London, Virginia, and Spain and as the title suggests Rocco Savage has a secret but then so does Mi6 interrogator Caterina Cruz. The chemistry between the pair of them is super hot and I love the way Cat gets Rocco going by talking Spanish to him and the way she handles a weapon whether it be a gun or a super large knife held between her teeth. If big hot guys with big guns who pull out all the stops to save the girl is your cup of tea then this is defiantly for you.
**WARNING** This story has a violent sexual scene and Cristin Harber has done a great job of portraying the horror of the attack without making it overly graphic and I would also join Cristin in saying that..."Rape is a crime. Talking about it isn't. There are many resources out there, Including After Silence to help in the healing process"

Mykelti Williamson
Great acting, shame about the rest
It pains me to say this, but I really wasnt impressed with this film. The acting is fantastic, from Denzel Washington, Viola Davis and Mykelti Williamson (Bubba!), and the dialogue too is top notch. The problem is the film is too dialogue heavy and the rest of the story seems to take a back seat. Most of the film is taken up by characters standing around talking. Yes they are delivering some great pieces of dialogue, but it just isn't enough to stop the film from becoming a little bit tedious. You can really tell that its been adapted from a play, with the heavy dialogue and minimal sets. And it doesn't help that Washington's character isn't very likeable.
Sadly this film reminds me a little of Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, which had so much talking in the first half that I fell asleep before the intermission. Fortunately Fences isn't quite this bad as it is at least propped up by some fantastic performances.

MelanieTheresa (997 KP) rated Final Shadows (A Bishop Files Novel, Book 3) in Books

I adore Kay Hooper and the Bishop/SCU/Haven stories. That being said, these Bishop Files novels don’t seem to have the same….punch, if you will, as the main stories. This was a disappointing end to the trilogy, and a disappointing installment in the Bishop/SCU universe.
Almost the entire book is the characters talking. Explaining what happened over the last two books and why, explaining what’s going to happen and why, explaining what they need to do to end the “war.” SO.MUCH.TALKING. Even when action moments took place, they were over far too quickly, and then – you guessed it – back to talking, because evidently they found it necessary to dissect every little moment. Not even Bishop or Miranda were excluded from this overly descriptive narrative. At this point in the series, did we really need a rehash of what everyone’s powers/abilities are?
The ending of this book made me say “What?? UGH. That’s how it’s ending?”
Looking forward to eventually returning to the main SCU storyline.

The backing story
Had to be reinvented with a new name for the publicity
So with a story of an alien invasion in which a low tanker soldier finds himself dying but waking up the day previous every time he dies. Hence the name of the film. The film should have been really good, given that you have Hollywood superstar Tom cruise and is supported by Oscar nominee emiky blunt. But instead, the film falls short.
They spend a lot of time off of the battle field and in training and you see a lot of talking and very minimal action. The backing story for me is really good, or has the potential for it being really good. Spending most of there time running or talking in the film, cruise and blunt deliver there lines with perfect execution and I really feel that the film is let down by the writers imagination and the direction given in this film. I'd of given a higher rating if it was just that little bit more on the edge of your seat action.
