Charlotte (184 KP) rated Once Upon a Broken Sky (Grimmfay, #0.5) in Books

Enchanting afternoon read
Oh my! A magical story without a fairytale ending.....well, not a classic happy ever after at least.
Once Upon a Broken Sky is a mix of childlike wonder, manipulation, growing up fast, magic, illusion and so much more.
I think I was a bit slow working out who some of the characters were before their life at Grimmfay but it made so much sense when I realised and things fell into place.
I like that it mirrors real life slightly, in that one situation is replaced with another that appears to be better but actually isn't. I can't explain it as you seriously need to read this and find out for yourself.
I'd recommend this for teenagers and above, partly as there would be a better understanding of the story and partly for some great talking points that create awareness for real life.

Somebody has killed an earth mage it's up to light keeper Sira, with the help of a Hellmage Jana to find who has committed the dreadful crime. Will they be able to work together or will their differences stop them from finding the abomination who's committed the act?
For saying that this book has a lot of fighting, lust and sex, it's quite gentle - who knew that could happen? It is a nice easy read with lots of action but made me eager to find out who was doing what. I couldn't read it fast enough. A couple of times I did find myself getting a bit confused over which character was talking but after re-reading the start I soon got my head straight and was able to continue without too much disruption.
A fantastic read.

David McK (3663 KP) rated The Rock (1996) in Movies

There was a period during the late 90s, early 90s, where Nice Cage was in full action hero mode.
We're talking the likes of National Treasure, Con-Air, Face/Off. And this, his first entry in that mold from 1996.
Also starring Sean Connery in a Bind-in-all-but-name role, this sees Cage playing the part of an FBI chemical expert who has to accompany Connery and US Marines on a mission to infiltrate Alcatraz (Connery's role being as the only man to ever escape from said prison) after a group of disillusioned Marines - led by Ed Harris - seize control of the island and have chemical weapons pointing at San Francisco.
I think this may be the first Michael Bay film I ever saw; looking back on it now I can see that, even back then, it has all the hallmarks of one of his films!

Ripping Off The Mask by Harper Jewel
Ripping Off The Mask starts with action. Coop is with his (work) partner, Silvio, when they are called to a bank robbery. Others are on their way, or already there, chasing the suspects. Silvio goes off by himself as he is faster than Coop. That leads to them both being shot, only Silvio doesn't make it. What he does do is to open up a hornet's nest within Coop, as he tries to come to terms with everything that has happened, and what he did.
I liked Coop and Wes when they weren't talking. In fact, I liked ALL the characters when they weren't talking. The minute they opened their mouths, I lost interest. The conversations and comments made came across as very stilted and forced, with lots of repetition between what they thought and what they said.
Some of the situations in the book just didn't seem realistic - and yes, I know this is fiction, but I still like to be able to pretend it's real! There is a paranormal element to this book that you will either like or loathe. Personally, I liked it, but that's just me. The premise of this book is a good one, and has all the elements there that I normally like. However, although I still liked the book, it didn't really get to me. There are plenty of themes in this book, from the twins separated at birth, to ghosts/angels, to the big bad with a rough childhood. This is a long book, so there is plenty of time for everything to play out.
I think if you can get to grips with the pacing and style of writing, then you will probably enjoy this book.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated All My Friends - Single by Col3man in Music
Jun 17, 2019
Armen Paul is an NYC-based singer-songwriter from Boston, Massachusetts. Col3man is an electronic producer who grew up in Heber City, Utah. Not too long ago, they released an introspective dance tune, entitled, “All My Friends”.
“Can’t walk on water, never figured it out. Waves break like me and you. Wade in my worries, but I’m human to doubt, feel you in every mood when I’m angry. I get down on my myself and I get anxious when I need help.” – lyrics
‘All My Friends’ tells an interesting tale of a depressed young man who prays for someone to call his phone.
Apparently, he’s not strong mentality, but somehow he blindly makes it through the day.
‘All My Friends’ contains a relatable storyline, harmonious vocals, and vibey instrumentation flavored with a futuristic blend of indie-pop and electronic elements.
“My friend Col3man and I wrote this song in hopes of helping to erase some of the social stigmas around talking about depression and suicide. It can be challenging to approach friends, family, or professionals and ask for help, but talking about it is often the healthiest way of coping. There is always someone out there willing to listen. We hope this song helps others be the person to reach out and offer help or alternatively, be the person who asks for help. Both efforts take a tremendous amount of courage and they can be life-changing.” – Armen Paul
Armen Paul’s silky falsetto and shimmering vibrato coupled with his subtle grit and soulful melodies create a beautiful musical atmosphere. Not too long ago, the bubbly entertainer appeared on the television show, The X-Factor.
Greggory “Col3man” Ellis has been making a name by creating a unique blend of urban and electronic music.
After touring Africa and Europe as a concert pianist in high school, he found his love for production and dance music.
