"I have always liked Tracy Morgan, and when I saw him in that movie teaching this kid how to hit on women in a mall, and his head pops up and he says, “Peekaboo, I’m gonna hump you” — that is the funniest thing I’d ever heard in my life. Really, that alone made me want to pick this movie. Sometimes stupid humor is great, and that movie just puts me in a great mood."

MrsSkefton (3 KP) created a post in Middle School English Teachers

I guess most on here are in US? I’m a Teaching Assistant in Year 6 (UK). I cover teachers absence and admin time - often reading aloud to the class. Last year I worked with year 4 Monday pm and read Michael Morpurgo books including The Dancing Bear, Mr Nobody’s Eyes and Running Wild. I found them rather dry, hard to get engagement from the class. I am interested to hear recommendations for books for KS2 children.

"As any parent knows, preparing your kids for life after high school is a long and sometimes difficult journey. Tavenner—who created a network of some of the best performing schools in the nation—has put together a helpful guidebook about how to make that process as smooth and fruitful as possible. Along the way, she shares what she’s learned about teaching kids not just what they need to get into college, but how to live a good life".

The Society of Extraordinary Raccoon Society The book is about sharing and giving. It is done well. Children will learn some rhyme as well with this book. Though the book is about learning what is right and wrong. There is also the lesson of giving to though that need it more. The author does this well. Show it tough the pictures. The pictures do tell the story. Learning about giving to others is the most important thing. This book is more showing you around the secret society but also what they do.God wants us do be a giver and share too though who needs the stuff. I enjoy the way the story is story or meaning of the story is told. Teaching children the meaning and telling about giving your stuff away to though that need it. Teaching children to share as well.Rhyming is a part of the theme in this book. Children can learn words as well. It is fun to read. It also enjoys and can make your child or children laugh as well.

This book is about a kid named Adam. He loves playing chess. He playing a game with one of his friends. She beat him in it. Though this is the start of his problem it not what prompt him to do it.

You be surprise what prompt him to do it and how he does it and everything about it. This book also teaching you about trust and stealing. It also teaches you about right from wrong. It can happen to anyone.

What if women could find a way to teach men how to behave properly? Well, Eric Garcia (yes, a man) came up with one idea, and he wrote about it long before the #MeToo movement. This novel has been called “Sex and the City meets Misery,” as well as a “brilliantly twisted take on chick lit,” and you can see what I think of it in my review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2013/12/14/teaching-men-manners-is-no-laughing-matter/

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

As someone who crochets, spinning has always been something in the back of my mind. It has always been something I have been interested in, both for curiosity’s sake and because I want to learn how to do it. While this book was both interesting and informational, however, there were a handful of parts where I didn’t understand the jargon. The author was quick to explain them as well as having accompany images that make what she discussing clear and translate to real like. The images are actually quite detailed and I found myself learning just as much from them as the text. The author has an easy friend tone that feels like she is having a conversation with you rather than teaching you.

While I was unable to put her teaching into practice, I learned a great deal from this book. For a novice, it was an easy clear read that I hope to be able to put into practice someday soon and be able to make my own yarn.

It is teaching languages (0 more)
There is no "real" education, per se. Repetition and memorization, to me, aren't a great way to learn languages. (0 more)
Good, but not what I expected
I have been using Duolingo for several months, although sporadically. The method behind the app is simple memorization. Some of the "Quizzes" that were not 'covered', and it made it difficult. Some of the ways things were taught, or indicated, were completely opposite of what I was taught in high school and college, again, making it very difficult to know exactly what was correct.

Volume 2 of Assassination Classroom continues the oddball storyline of a misfit class of students that are trying to assassinate their teacher. The book covers are colorful and cute, but the series is not for young readers. In book 2, we are introduced to a new teacher character, who happens to be a professional assassin. This lady needs to try her hand at the assassination as well as get used to teaching kids in a classroom setting. The class also gets to head out on a class trip to Koyoto. More fun to come...

B (62 KP) rated The Canterbury Tales in Books

Oct 13, 2018
I read this book in preparation for teaching my 7th graders and was extremely pleased. I remember reading parts of the original while at uni and feeling absolutely bored as I had to translate the Middle English before making any sense of it. McCaughrean's adaptation, while I'm not sure how accurate, is extremely enjoyable. I especially like the stories told by the Knight and the Wife of Bath. I recommend this text to anyone who has ever wanted to read the classic book but just doesn't have the time and patience to suffer through translation.
