Good script
Impressive set design
Kill One, Save A Thousand
A well acted, well written war movie. Murphy and Dornan are great as the two lead spies and production level is high. The sets and the use of practical effects make for exciting battle scenes that break up the tension and dread that is present throughout the film.

Climactic
Keeps you on your toes
You know how all books have a midpoint climax that changes everything? This is that book in the series. Between high tension activities at her school, mental stress, and an ending that will make you throw your book against the wall and cry in turn, you will be sucked in.

I was pleasantly surprised by this series and hope to see a continuation of it. It was constantly intense and unexpected. Even in the moments of supposed calm, there is a palpable tension in every action taken by the characters. The way it follows the different characters on their journey through the horror and how their stories link together was really interesting.

The early naughties destructive Japan
There was a slew of angry rebellious nihilistic cinema in this period and Blue Spring may just be the most punk rock of them all. Its an artistic nasty little film full of violence and tension, as if art House got really pissed off and decided to say eff you. A seminal piece of cinema

Jump Scares are on point
The 'Baddies' in this lack the pure sinister power of the demon from the first. (1 more)
Its a little 'straightforward haunted house movie' for my tastes
Decent Tension, but disappointingly predictable
Contains spoilers, click to show
Straight off the bat, if you liked the first Insidious, you will likely like the second.
Following straight on from the end of the first film, we are straight back with Wan's favourite boy Patrick Wilson and family, and the plot is a solid continuation of the themes explored in the first movie.
The camerawork in this movie, the framing of some of the shots etc is phenomenal and genuinely half of the tension of this film is generated by clever angles, and the lurching movement of the camera itself.
But where Insidious always began to struggle for me was in the mythos and the 'spirit realm' where it went a bit 'poltergeist' and took me out of the tension build in both films, though some of the ideas were interesting.
This film's antagonists never reach the same level of intimidation and fear as represented by the brilliant 'Darth Maul' Demon of the initial flick, but there are some interesting dynamics introduced using a serial killer and his relationship with his mother.
The biggest disappointment is probably just that Insidious 2 doesn't really ever expand on the first, leaving us with a nicely wrapped up story, but without really expanding our understanding or excitement for what a 3rd installment could offer.
That being said, it does enough right to make it an enjoyable watch, and the class of Wan and Whannell is evident throughout.
A polished, decent scare fest with plenty of strengths, but lacking in a truly memorable antagonist.

Suspenseful atmosphere
Great suspense and tension but abysmal ending
The director of this film (Susanne Bier) clearly studied other films of this genre to know how to successfully create a tense and suspenseful atmosphere throughout the duration of the film. Since the 'creatures' are not seen in the film, this really helps the audience's imagination picture various ideas of these 'creatures'. However, my only problem with this film is the ending feels rushed and vague which doesn't tie up any loose ends of the film. Therefore, this leads to the whole experience and atmosphere of the film being subdued by this abysmal ending which could of been improved. I feel that this film could've got a much better rating if this ending was thought about more. A brilliant film with a sub-brilliant ending

I will start by saying, wow!!! A beautifully written aquatic tale full of sexual tension, engrossing characters and captivating imagery. Once you begin to read this book, you will find yourself captivated until the adventurous end. Will definitely read the second book!!
