Another solid Joe Wright film. Gary Oldman did an amazing job as Churchill, the ultimate spin doctor. It was a good year to bring this film out, since Dunkirk came out a few months earlier. The movie did a good job, building the tension between the various political figures, and the war. It was also nice to see Ben Mendelsohn not play a villain.

I wasnt the slightest bit surprised after watching this to find out it was a Robert Zemeckis film. It centres far too much on the romance side and is very lacking in tension, action or suspense. The acting is good but nothing special, and I just found the whole thing a little boring. Could be due to expecting a spy film rather a romantic WWII drama.

Great cast especially the two male leads (1 more)
Great tension builds towards the end
A little long in the run time I felt, but overall a very entertaining film with great performances from Brad Pitt and Christopher Waltz. The second half of the film is better as a plot to assassinate the top Nazi's in one hit slowly unravels with a few twists and turns.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Stagestruck (Peter Diamond, #11) in Books
Apr 27, 2018
This book sounded so good! I'm a stage performer so I was really excited to get it. However, upon beginning the book I found it difficult to get into the story, and there was barely any tension to keep me reading. It felt very distant. I have no urge to continue. And I have learned not to waste time on books I have no urge to read.

another fantastic book by this author. a very well written story line with lots of twists and turns which keep you hooked. the characters are fantastic and well written. the author has a fantastic gift for building up the tension so you think you know whats coming then moves the story in a totally different direction.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated The Abyss (1989) in Movies
Jun 5, 2019
This undersea action thriller is intriging with a slow start as the tension builds into one of the best sci-fi actioners out there, with an Eco message we should all heed.
Camera work is top notch and underwater scenes gripping and although not the most scientifically accurate, the balance ensures exciting viewing.
This movie has depth way beyond that of the sea it is set in.

Dean (6927 KP) rated The Purge (2013) in Movies
Feb 1, 2018 (Updated Feb 2, 2018)
Home invasion with a twist
Probably the best of the 3 Purge films, the first film gave us something fairly original. It mixes home invasion with a political, society twist. It has a what would you do in that situation vibe to it as well. Do what's right or what is safe? There are some wacky characters and plenty of tension to keep you entertained.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Fatal Attraction (1987) in Movies
Feb 24, 2018 (Updated May 24, 2020)
A Classic
A classic thriller that set the standards on the stalker, obsessed ex, woman scorned after revenge genre. Quite raunchy for the time it was made. The tension really mounts as Glenn Close's character goes to increasing desperate measures to keep in touch with and get her man. One scene produced a term of phrase that is still used widely even today for an obsessed ex.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Pan's Labyrinth (2006) in Movies

Pan's Labyrinth is a creepy-dark fairy tale from GDT. I absolutely love the aesthetic of this film. The story completely ripped my heart out, but it was so good.
Seriously, the Pale Man freaks me out, and I may or may not have nightmares about that creepy thing. The scene with the Pale Man is pitch perfect, and you can feel the tension and fear.
