Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Twisted Deception in Books
Jun 26, 2018
Having twist in the title is appropriate because this book had so many twists and turns it made my head spin. It was exactly what you want in a thriller. The characters were not wimpy but not superheros either. The setting of the cutthroat corporate world added a different dimension as well.It just all fit perfectly. Then add sexual tension. Yes, this book had it all.

I kind of guessed the way this film would go by way of the title, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself hooked from the beginning and unsure about what was happening and why. I thought the cast were strong and felt the emotions coming from them. There isn't too much explanation about the situation which draws away from the actual story and tension builds throughout.

Seemed like a good idea...
Also known as Survival Island in America. Classed as an erotic thriller, unfortunately failing on both counts. Kelly Brook does get naked for about 2 mins of the film and that's it. There isn't much tension, or scares and it has a daft voodoo sub-plot. A similar and much better film, also starring Billy Zane, is Deep Calm.

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Toxic Toffee in Books

I received this copy of Toxic Toffee from Kensington through Netgalley.
I loved it this book. The Amish we're dealt with very well, I felt. I loved Bailey's uncertainty regarding her relationship. And Puff the bunny!
There is an 8 foot rabbit involved, which causes some unexpected tension. The mystery (Who killed a guy who looked like an Amish Santa Claus?) was very interesting if not tragic.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated The Babadook (2014) in Movies

Unusual horror film that will have the hair on your neck stand up.
It deals with loss and loneliness and fear of the unknown as a single mother struggles to raise her disturbed child whilst dealing with grief at the loss of her husband and the deep emotions involved.
Very effective and fresh approach that expertly builds tension and the Babadook itself will freak you out!

Rushed but thrilling
This is thrilling and a real page turner but it did feel rushed in places. I like the main character and found the use of the term mother quite haunting.
Sometimes the dialogue felt repetitive and was used over the top when building tension.
Having said that, I couldn't put it down and enjoyed the story.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Hate F*@k: Part 1 (The Horus Group, #1) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
Hmm...that last bit has stumped me a little. I'll give it 3.5 stars.
I have no idea where the name came from for this because there isn't much hate going on or f*@king for that matter. There's a lot of tension and few sexual interactions but not too much--which is good as far as I'm concerned. Too much puts me off.
Another thing I liked was there was actually a plot to this book--with the name you can never be too sure--and I enjoyed it. The tension was brilliant and I couldn't wait for it to peak which it did right at the end.
As for the other part of the story, the family issue and Cole's secrets I am very intrigued by that ending. What the hell happened?!
I think I'll have to get the second part just to find out.

A clever sci-fi
good dark sci fi film with the right amount of tension and some strange moments. Well worth a watch as its a cross between Event Horizon and Alien which in itself is a strange concept. A lot of Internationally talented actors make up the cast and as usual there is one character that steals what bit of humour there is.
