I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi stories, I'll admit, but the cover has been taunting me for a while, both on Amazon and on here, so when the price was only 77p I thought, "Why not?

We were thrown straight into Renna's world as jumped straight into her first job of the book and it was a whirlwind of escapes, fighting and pulling off what seems impossible from there until the end.

I loved the tension between Renna and Finn! Even from the start you could tell something was brewing and I really enjoyed reading about it.

As for the rest of the crew, I grew to like them, even the Pirate :)

The ending has left me wanting to jump straight into the next book just to see if Renna and the crew can kick bad guy arse!

Friends with the monsters ( friends with monsters book 1)
By Albany Walker

Gather round close, for I have a secret to tell.

Late at night, while everyone is sleeping, dreaming of white knights and fairytales. I’m making friends with the monsters.

They call to me, like finds like, right? My biggest secret, I’m the scariest monster I know.

I think I’m the bad guy.

MFMM Reverse Harem novel with adult themes not recommended for those under 18.

Ok so this starts off a little strange and give mixed signals. It was quirky but on sometimes a little try hard. I was so curious about where it was going I stuck with it! I was pleasantly surprised to find I actually liked it! The sexual tension was dealt with very well!! Looking forward to more!

It's the last one, sadly--I'll admit it's grown on me a lot over the past two books, the pace picking up and everything coming together--and in my opinion, the best one.

The final showdown between Gwen and friends and Loki and the reapers has been a long time brewing and let me tell you that battle was edge of your seat stuff. I mean, I know they wouldn't lose because that would have been a crappy ending, but how the author wrote it. The tension of not knowing how Gwen was going to come out on top pushed it from the usual 4 star up to a 4.5/5 stars.

Seeing how all the characters we've come to know over the previous five books come together to fight the Reapers, well, I really liked this ending.

A side-step for the second and third story arcs
The second volume of the graphic novel series combines two distinct story arcs. These do not follow on from the issues with The Seven, or the conflict with Teenage Kix, and this kind of stands out from the first issue.
The first arc follows Butcher and Hughie trying to find out how a young gay man met his death, and has hilarious moments, mainly surrounding the Batman-esque Tek-Knight.
The second arc sees the team take a trip to Russia and uncover a plot to overthrow the government.
Both stories have the same feel of the first arc, but they feel like something of a distraction, and not much is done to build up the tension with The Seven (other than starting to uncover the CIA's reluctance to take Vought-American down).

I must admit that I really, really struggled with this book because although the story was good and the way the author weaved historical fact with fiction was well done and it was clearly well researched, it was just too slow for me and there was too much jumping from scene to scene making it hard for me to keep track as it didn't flow particularly well and I didn't get the excitement or tension that I was hoping for.

I accept that this is my view and this book will certainly appeal to a lot of people ... you just have to see how many 4 and 5 star reviews this has got to prove that but it just wasn't for me.

Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton via NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest and unbiased review.
