It's all about those pesky expectations...

If you have seen a good number of action movies then you know that there are certain things that you should expect from them. Not that the stories don't change a bit, but the sequencing, the pacing, the overall feel and vibe of the movie is going to be quite similar. If that's what you have come to expect, you're on the right track here.

Wasn't a terrible movie. Emile Hirsch did a decent enough job in the titular role. Kate Bosworth held her own. Mel Gibson showed up with what has become his own grit and wit. The story is awkwardly similar to Hurricane Heist in many regards, but gets the job done a little better, probably due to stronger acting in general.

Decent popcorn tosser or background noise.

In all honesty I'll admit I didn't really 'watch' this film, it was on in the background whilst I played some games.

*But* when I stick films on in the background they normally grab my attention a few times, and I can keep up with the plot easily enough.
I can say I kept up with the plot of this one, but from what I can tell the dialogue wasn't great, as there was nothing that particularly stood out, as it was a bit of the over tired tropes, and predictable from the outset.

There were a couple of good looking set pieces and action sequences, and the rest didn't look terrible.

If you are looking for an easy to watch sci-fi action film, that's not too heavy on plot, character development, or being overly sciencey, then this could be for you!

Album Favorite

"I was up in Glasgow, Stephen Pastel gave me that record and it's since become one of my favourites because it's really nice to listen to lying down and relaxing. Sometimes that's what you want from a record, you just want to let it wash over you, and I find that one does it in a very pleasant way. Pulp and The Pastels were in similar dire financial straits because we were both signed to this terrible label called Fire Records. We both got screwed through that, but that wasn't what we bonded over. Stephen has an amazing record shop up in Glasgow called Monorail that's been going for a while. I remember him starting that back when everyone was saying 'well why would you open a record shop when that's a dead format', I think he was quite far-sighted there. "

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
2019 | Action/Adventure, Simulation
Playing as the harvest goddess Sakuna is interesting because she starts out as a rather spoiled person, but when she makes a terrible mistake and gets banished to the realm of mortals with a group of humans to correct it, you start to see her change into a better person. There are two aspects to the game: 2D side scrolling dungeon levels and then a farming sim where you have to grow and harvest rice. Both are a lot of fun. The story is charming and you get to see how Sakuna starts to change because of her interactions with the mortals and working together with them. The art style is very cute and colorful. It's a fun whimsical game. You can read the full review here: http://mg28-mothergamer.blogspot.com/2021/01/sakuna-of-rice-and-ruin-charming.html

Based on the memoir of the same name by Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter. It follows Bauman, who loses his legs in the Boston Marathon bombing and how he must adjust to his new life.

I feel terrible that I didn't really enjoy this film. The story itself is such a powerful one, and moments in it are truly moving, but the film starts to drag a bit in places. I'm going to have to look into the comparisons between the movie and what actually happened, it's difficult to tell what they created for the script to make the movie chug along and what was real.

There are some very talented actors in this one though, and as I said, some very moving moments. For me though I think it's not quite the break from reality that I look for in a film.

I read books 1 and 2 of this series back at the end of 2012 and I'd honestly forgotten a lot of what happened in them, however the first chapter of this did a good job to revise some of what had happened.

I did remember that I was Team Michael out of him and Alex but with the introduction of another lover in this, I wanted to throw my computer. Two men isn't enough in her life? She gets a third? I'm still Team Michael because he's done his best to redeem himself after the terrible crimes he committed before he was sentenced to be held on the property by Sarah's dad.

The ending has left me eager to see what happen next with Sarah and the three men in her life and I'm off to start book 4 in the series.
