Deplorable, only a few meager steps above the likes of shit hall-of-famer Bargain bin ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ช๐ฆ meets injudicious ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ณ๐ช๐ด ๐๐ถ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ณ'๐ด ๐๐ข๐บ ๐๐ง๐ง mixed with elements that we'd later see Phillips use to his benefit in better films like ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ and ๐๐ถ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ต๐ฆ - but are 0% amusing here. I challenge you to find a more stagnant road trip movie than this, why even cast Tom Green at the peak of his fame (who, along with DJ Qualls, are the only perfect performances) if you're only going to have him do a couple outrageous things? Like yeah don't overdo it but come on you can do better than this. I mean hell even similarly awful 30 ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐ถ๐ต๐ฆ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ณ ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ด did at least fifty times more with Fred Ward. Also worth noting how much this films hates women. The entire plot of this movie hinges on the Meyer (who is worse than terrible in this) character rightfully being in danger of his girlfriend finding out he undisguisedly cheated on her but we're supposed to not want that to happen because him and his noxious jackass friends are funny... but they aren't? Some of the ugliest aesthetics and soundtrack offerings of the crime of good taste that was the late 90s/early 2000s style. I'm usually a Todd defender but this is just wretched. ๐๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฆ.

Okay, so not long after I posted my review of HOUSE OF M, I wanted to jump right into AVENGERS: DISASSEMBLED. I know there is a lot of haters in regard to this, and even with that knowledge, I still wanted to give it a go, especially considering how much I enjoyed my re-reading of HOUSE OF M. Man, I wish I had gone with gut instinct instead of trying to be more liberal towards comics I had previously avoided!
It's hard to believe this was written before HOUSE OF M! This is like Bendis at his worst! None of the characters are written well! Tony Stark's a ridin' the "Immma Asshole Express", while Clint Barton (Hawkeye) was written like a misogynistic asshat! And that storyline? TERRIBLE! It was like an 'Afterschool Special' (D'oh! Showin' my age with that reference!) about nihilism!
And as bad as the writing and dialogue, the art varied. Look, I love me some David Finch, but here, hmmm, not so much! The male characters seemed okay enough, but dear God, I felt like most of the female characters were drawn more like fanboy commissions rather than the actual characters!
Here's the bottom line: it sucked! Skip it! You can read HOUSE OF M without needing this dumpster fire! Jus' sayin..

LoganCrews (2861 KP) rated Annabelle (2014) in Movies

Shockingly not terrible. Don't get it twisted, the first 45 minutes still represent the worst of what horror movies can be (sewing machines are not fucking scary no matter how much royalty-free sounding, overloud music cues and ugly CGI blood you put around them) but after that it immediately wakes up and becomes something sort of half-serviceable. Its assets still have to work in service of another one of these shallow husks of horror franchise spin-offs complete with bottom-of-the-barrel acting from its two leads, sloppy editing, amateur-hour dialogue, and zero reason for existing. But that being said, this is actually a more interesting take on motherhood persevering through demonic possession than ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ซ๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ - its characters are somewhat better and it introduces some intriguing threads about how religion presents itself in people's personal problems. Granted it doesn't do too much with them buy hey, they're there. Plus that entire elevator/staircase segment (barring the idiotic final jump) is effective as hell and Alfre Woodard is terrific. Kind of fun for a while, but not only am I still wondering why this needed to happen... but if it did, why was it pushed out in such a state? Though hey, at least it went with the R-rating which this easily could have skipped out on.

Loved it from start to finish
Nalini Singh explores new heights of sensuality, returning to the world of the Psy - where two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts...
As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now he is a defector, and his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna...
Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted - and had her mind violated - by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives...
Can't tell you how much I loved this book or this series! Nalini is just a fabulous writer I think this has to be my favourite book so far! It gives hope when things have been so bad and the worst has happened it lets you know you can overcome anything with the right help!
Highly recommended!

Lee KM Pallatina (951 KP) rated ONI in Video Games

An overlooked bungie Gem that was too ahead of its time.
Contains spoilers, click to show
Oni is a third person action videogame developed by Bungie (west).
Released in 2001 it was Bungie wests ONLY game!?
The game focuses on shooting and hand to hand combat as you take on a reasonable amount of enemies, the gun controls are rather terrible and the combat controls are great providing you actually manage to land a strike.
ONI was originally planned to be released just for Mac, OS and Windows but was later ported to ps2 through Rockstar Canada.
The game was heavily inspired by Anime classics 'Ghost in a Shell' and 'Akira' which is very noticeable from the cover and beginning of the game (and also being set in a cyberpunk world).
Story:
Taking place in the year 2032, the world has become a dystopia due to pollution leaving very little of the planet habitable.
In order to solve the Global economic crisis, all nations formed under one banner....the world coalition government.
You play as agent Konoko (voiced by Amanda winn-Lee) a member of the TCTF (Technological Crimes Task Force), working against a crime organisation known as The Syndicate. Whilst blasting through enemies konoko begins to unravel secrets promoting more questions than answers.

Visually awesome scenes
Mind bending Action
I saw a tag for a review that called this Bond on acid. That's a good summary. At times it feels like a modern Bond film. Global locations, wicked villain, butch henchman but packed with plenty of style. Visually it's very impressive as you'd expect for a Nolan film. Especially the time related action scenes, which look a bit surreal. The plot is simple in reality like a Bond film, stop something terrible happening. The whole time and inversion is where it starts to get complex, definitely a film with many layers. It just feels some sections of the film are overly complicated, almost for the sake of it. Not helped that hearing the dialogue in some scenes is difficult. I'm sure more will unravel with a second viewing.
I've not seen the lead actor in anything before but he had a likable swagger in the role. The rest of the cast are pretty good as well.
Overall a film that is well made and unique, with some almost strange to watch action scenes. It's classy if a little overly complex on the plot. By the end it does enough to bring the film to a good conclusion. Although you'll still be trying to understand some points long after.
