There are loads of great rides at the amusement park. The Devil's Elbow is the favourite, and always packed. When it flies off its rails, it causes a terrible accident. But Tess isn't so sure it was an accident. Someone knows what she saw, and someone is out to shut her up.

This is one of my favourites from Diane Hoh and the Point horrors. I’m tea enjoying this trip down memory lane. I really don’t like fairground rides.

I will give it to this novel--it's a page-turner. I might not have really liked any of the characters (Daisy the dog exempted), but I certainly flew through the book. The narrative style wasn't exactly my favorite; it just felt off to me.

"There was, however, one truth Nina took from the terrible ordeal, an abstract notion that with time and rumination calcified into a harsh new understanding: just because you love someone doesn't mean you know them."

There is no one in this book that I felt the desire to root for, beyond Daisy and poor Maggie, Nina's thirteen-year-old daughter, who is bullied and neglected thanks to all that's going on. I'm sorry, but her clueless mom makes some terrible decisions. I wanted to shake her multiple times.

This book is crazy and honestly, a little too far-fetched for me at times. I love a book filled with twists and turns, but this one might take the cake. Especially since some of them seemed to lack any motivation or backup.

Still, it's a page-turner and a fast read. If you can suspend your disbelief more than I did, you'll probably really enjoy it.

After finally viewing the first installment of Street Kings (I was a little late to the party), I decided to throw in Street Kings 2: Motor City. I'm from Michigan, I love Ray Liotta, and the first movie was great. The potential here was almost limitless.

Until the very opening scene cut to open and the wheels began to fall off.

I'm not generally one to hold a films score responsible for too much weight in a movie negatively. A great score can definitely make a good movie great, but I usually don't let the score take a good movie and make it shoddy. This is an exception. The music, right from the beginning, is downright terrible. Have you ever heard a toddler bang a mallet on those obnoxious xylophones? Like that terrible. Sounds like it was put together on some guys thirty year old computer without as much as actually watching the dang movie to make sure it even made sense. It was truly awful throughout.

But even with that, I wouldn't rate a movie solely based on the score. This movie lacked most of the things that made its namesake great. Most of all, it lacked heart. That's something you can't buy.
