Oh yes, it's that time of year when Netflix starts dishing out the festive movies. Some will be great, others will be terrible, and most will be a bit of cheesy fun. That's certainly where Holidate fits in to. I mean, reading the plot alone is enough to make your eyes roll, but as long as the leads are likable and have good chemistry then that's all you need. Thankfully, Sloane and Jackson are undoubtedly believable as a couple, even though they have a firm dislike of each other at first.

Mixed feelings

I loved this movie when I was a teenager. I loved the costumes, the drama, the romance. We lived in a bubble back then and were woefully ignorant of racism and all the harm done to people of color (and are still being done to people of color.) So I have a very small soft spot in my heart for this movie but feel terrible about it.

Rolling Stone's 453rd greatest album of all time (2020)

While this album definitely has some of NIN's best songs (Head Like a Hole, Terrible Lie), the rest of the album is a little sub-par, certainly compared to The Downward Spiral and The Fragile which are much more consistent. I was slightly amused that a lot of the electronic or sampled drum beats on some songs sounded identical to those used in early hip-hop, despite the two genres being poles apart at the time. A good listen but it is all downhill after an amazing start.

Lots of great action and yes it's a bit light on the story, but it's not completely terrible. It's a fun popcorn movie and if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games like me, it's not a bad ride. I did love Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion because he's a really talented actor and he made the role work for him. It was disappointing that there's some characters missing like Johnny Cage, but maybe we'll get to see him in the sequel. If you take it for what it is, pure entertainment it's a good film.
