Scream..... Some more
Ok so scream was rebooted once again in what I can only describe after seeing this one, is not much more than a cash grab sequel that's just DYING to squeeze the life out of the remaining original characters.

Riffing on the original plot, which is constantly brought up in its own poor attempt at being meta by using the fictional movie stab which is based on the original movies events.... (hey you, ya still there? Are you keeping up?) and being used as a terrible guide book if you will...

The only good thing about this movie is the return/inclusion of the original cast...

Honestly, this movie just kinda fell flat quickly and had its moments throughout its run but its nothing to brag about.

Seriously....

Simple to Learn/Teach Length is good for what it is. Fun to play with kids Whimsical Art (0 more)
Thin cards (0 more)
Terrible British accents suggested.
Dinosaur Tea Party is basically "Guess Who" for four players. It can be a terrific time, especially with kids. It is a bit more fun if you can somehow roleplay a dinosaur with a British accent. I would not bring this out for a Game Night with my gaming friends. However, it is a lot of fun with kids. It is a little too much for my 5 year old boy, but my 8 year old girl loves it. The art is amazing. There is a variant that can make the game more complicated if you do play it with adults, but I haven't played that variant.

Dragged Across Concrete (2019)
Dragged Across Concrete (2019)
2019 | Action, Crime, Drama
This is a film that I have been interested in seeing for the past few months solely due to the fact that it stars Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn, but its run time of over 2 and a half hours has deterred me time and again.

Unfortunately, the film is terrible and takes too much time to even get to its point and then dragged things along (across concrete???) to torture us even more.

The story is overly long and has too many plot holes that it looks like a sieve.

It moves along painfully at a really slow pace and is a real chore to get through.

Both Vaughn and Gibson gives less than spectacular performances here which is a shame since they both have it in them to give us great performances.

The story is filled with lots of holes that make it all seem very chaotic and unorganized because it moves from extreme to extreme without real continuity along the way.

The dialogue is atrocious and makes the viewer laugh because it makes so little sense and is quite often extremely silly.

Bottom Line – Terrible film that drags on for much too long and actually makes the viewer feel as if they are truly being dragged across concrete the entire time. Vaughn and Gibson both give very lackluster performances here and this feels more like a grab for a quick salary than a way to tell an engaging and interesting story. The story is filled with far too many plot holes that make this thing feel like it is riddled with holes just like Swiss cheese. The dialogue is quite humorous because it comes across as being too silly the whole time and makes so little sense along the way.

I loved his previous two films, but found this one just didn't have enough happening or just completely pointless scenes

I know what you mean, but I liked that about it. I equated it to some scenes in Coen Brothers movies that are like that i.e. Fargo.

How It Was looks at the complexity of a mother/ daughter relationship, and how a mothers own childhood can affect this. Or at least it does in the case of this family.

The 1970s were a time of change for some women, but not the women in this story. Marion is the mother of two children: Sarah, 14 and Eddie, 7. She is unhappy in her life, and has been for many years. We look at her life through a series of flashbacks (and flashbacks through her daughters eyes at the same time) as she sits at the hospital bedside of her dying husband. We learn of the affairs, the terrible relationship with her daughter, and the catastrophic accident that cost the family far more than just a child (although this was quite traumatic enough).

I found it very difficult to empathise with Marion, she’s not a likeable character. She seems self absorbed, I didn’t like how she felt about her daughter (it’s as though she feels repulsed by her), and how she speaks to everyone is simply rude. To me, it seemed to be a mixture of boredom, depression, selfishness and desperation that drove Marion’s actions. Michael, her husband, is endlessly patient, perhaps scared that she will leave him. He puts up with some terrible behaviour from Marion. I really wanted him to stand up for himself.

It doesn’t sound like it, I know, but I really liked this book. It’s a book with a thoroughly unpleasant main character (in fact she’s not on her own on that score - watch out for Adrian!) and they do make for interesting story lines!

This is the first book I’ve read by Janet Ellis, and I will be looking for more.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Two Roads for my copy of this book.

Black Christmas (2019)
Black Christmas (2019)

Horrendous
There are a lot of films that are so bad they're good, but unfortunately Black Christmas is so bad it's terrible. There is nothing redeemable about this film at all. I came out of the cinema after watching this feeling frustrated, exasperated and bored as hell.

This is the worst example of a horror film I've seen in a long time. The scares arent scary and despite the fact that it's a 15 certificate there's no blood or gore either. There's no tension, no suspense - there is literally nothing in this film that makes it an even halfway decent horror. It starts off slowly and doesn't get any better, and the acting and script are truly awful. Even Imogen Poots who I've previously thought was good in other films is terrible in this too. 30 minutes into this film I would've happily walked out and not cared about the outcome. And the worst thing about this is the plot and the completely irrational actions of the characters. The men vs women plot is trying to be modern and relevant, but actually comes across as preachy and beyond stupid. And some of the actions and decisions by characters in this film had me nearly shouting at the screen in exasperation.

This film was only 100 minutes long but it felt more like 100 hours. I went to see this purely because I was intrigued as to whether it turns out exactly like the trailer, and sadly I wasn't wrong. Don't waste a couple of hours of your life watching this, just watch the 2 minute trailer instead - it sums up the entire thing and is actually a lot more exciting! This is without a doubt the worst film I've seen at the cinema all year.
