Kate Avery Ellison is fast proving to be an author that doesn't disappoint me in any way. The Gift of Poison is about a young girl living in her dead father's home, looked after by an abusive and bitter uncle. The servants and guards follow his lead in their treatment of her so her life is difficult, to say the least. The only person who likes her, and is liked in return, is her cousin, Bran. So it came as no surprise when Briand does something impulsive to save Bran's life. What happens next will intrigue you as you follow along with Briand. The others still don't like or trust her, but you stay with her as they slowly overcome their dislike by spending time with her and realising that she is not at all how they thought she was.

This is a smoothly-paced book, with incredible detail and a hint of romance and steampunk. There is plenty of character growth and development, although Briand's has the most, for obvious reasons. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book that has laid the groundwork - and then some - for this story to continue. I personally can't wait to read more and have no hesitation in recommending this.

Full disclosure about my review of this book: I have always just liked Lena Dunham and harbored secret fantasies of us becoming friends. I'm sure this influenced my review somewhat. I'll admit that I would have liked to have read a bit more about how she got into the business, versus just random thoughts, but I also recognize that wasn't really the purpose of this particular book.

I also had to remind myself that Lena comes from the oversharing generation. There is a lot in this book that could potentially make you cringe, but if you know her work on <i>Girls</i> or anything else, it won't really come as a surprise. Overall, I found her writing style easy to read, and interesting, if not particularly amazing. I also enjoyed the chance to see any parallels between her life and <i>Girls</i>.

If this hadn't been an ebook I borrowed from the library, I definitely would have dog-eared some of the pages where she talks about how a woman deserves to be treated. There's certainly a lot to be learned from many of her pages, and I found a lot of what she said to be fascinating, if not disturbing, at times.

It was an easy, quick read and gave me some good insight into her life. (And I still want to be friends with her. And Lamby.)

PERFECT STORM is the sixth book in the Life Sucks series but you don't have to have read the others to get this one.

Caleb ghosted Kim four years ago. He had his reasons and put himself into a timeout to sort out his head. That didn't help Kim when she realised she was pregnant. Her dreams went up in smoke and she concentrated on putting her son first. Fast forward and they meet again. Caleb knows Cole is his son and is heartbroken at what he has missed through his own fault. He is determined to put things right and to win back Kim, plus have Cole in his life.

This is a sweet second-chance romance where neither main character acts like a jerk just for the sake of it. No, they're not sweetness and light all the time. Who is? Instead, you get fully-rounded characters that interact and build up their time together.

An easy-to-read story with sexy times, I have no hesitation in recommending this book. Looking forward to reading Raven's!

Another enjoyable and easy entry into Morganville and it's citizens. The plot was very interesting and well done, Claire continues to be a good main character who doesn't act stupid (which happens a lot even if they're supposed to be smart), and I do look forward to reading what happens next. However, I can do without the cliff hangers, the last book didn't really have one, but it's ridiculous. Can't I read a book without it ending like it's unfinished? Not sure about this new recent development in Claire's life...I foresee annoyingness ahead. LoL :P Otherwise, it's a fun, breezy world to spend some time in, and be happy I don't live there!

I do find it hard to believe that Claire and her parents could not find a better school closer to where they live than what seems to be your average run-of-the-mill college. There's no mention of it being a good school, just closer than whatever college she wants to go to (blanking on which school it is right now :P). Of course we need this contrivance, otherwise there'd be no book series, but at least make it a private upscale, high intelligence school!
