WHEN THE SKIES RAINED FREEDOM is another amazing story, based on real-life accounts, that tells the story too often unheard, that of the people just trying to survive.
Lotte is one of millions of Berliners trying to live in a city that has quite literally been torn apart. The conditions they live in are horrible, but they do it. They make the best of what little they have, even when things take a turn for the worse.
It wasn't hard to imagine any of it due to the high calibre of the writing. It didn't have to be described in minute detail for the message to get across - I'm thinking of what happened to Lotte's mother here. I was hoping for a happy ending for Lotte, but I am also aware that so many didn't get one.
I love this author's work. It is hard reading at times but worth every moment. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

I was hoping for a happy ending for Lotte, but I am also aware that so many didn't get one.

LIGHT & KINGDOM is the second book in the Royal & Piper series and carries on from Book 1, so you really need to read that one first.
Quirin and Cal are on the run from Evalena and intent on reaching Quirin's old homeland where he is sure she will get help. The only problem is that to do this, they need to travel over the top of a mountain, which people stay away from for fear of death.
What a book! Quirin and Cal become closer in this book as they deal with things outside of the extraordinary. They are alone and have to rely upon each other for survival, as well as seeing wondrous sights.
I loved this story and the finale was fantastic! I honestly can't wait to continue with this story. It is rich in detail and intrigue, bringing the story to life as you turn the pages. Absolutely brilliant and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

Who Killed the Developer at Emmy’s Family Resort?
When her life takes an unexpected turn, Emmy Cooper heads to visit her family who runs a resort on the shores of a lake in Wisconsin. When she arrives, she learns that a developer is trying to buy up her family’s land and surrounding land to build a mega resort. While no one is interested in selling, he isn’t taking no for an answer. When he turns up dead on Emmy’s family’s property the morning after a public fight with Emmy’s father, he looks like the prime suspect. Can Emmy clear her dad?
I’ve been hearing lots of good things about this series, and I can see why. The setting is wonderful. It’s one of those places I’d love to visit between murders. The cast of characters are fantastic as well. You can tell just how much they all care for each other. The plot was strong, too, and kept me guessing until we reached the logical climax. Unfortunately, the dialogue was often summarized for us, which pulled me out of the book. I’m still looking forward to visiting this new group of friends again soon.

Can Mel Clear a Frenemy?
Former police officer Mel O’Rourke is trying to settle into her new life running a B & B in the mountain town of Pine Cove. But then her past walks in. Poppy Phillips is a thief that Mel spent time trying to arrest when she was an officer. Poppy is looking for help since she stumbled over a body, and she is afraid the police will think she did it. The fact that Poppy was there committing a burglary does complicate things. Can Mel clear her? Does she want to?
I picked up this book thinking it was the first in a series. There is a novella that introduces some of the characters, and this book has major spoilers for that story. I also found the language in this book to be much worse than I wanted to read. The mystery was good, although I found some things bumped me, like police jurisdiction. It just didn’t seem logical, although maybe there is something I was missing. On the other hand, I really did like the characters and the relationships they were forming. Overall, this was a mixed bag for me.

This a story about a young boy. He thinks his family is good. When the Japanese come and take over by putting all the mother and children in a camp. Jeremiah is the one who need to watch over his siblings and mother. His older stepbrothers and his father are hauled away to work for the Japanese. This all starts shortly after his tenth birthday. It also when he see his love for the first time at a marble game. He also meets Charles (American).
Jeremiah see what goes on and want to help Dutch out at the camp. He has his adventures. Though things start to happen with his mother. He find out the truth of what his other was doing to each of his siblings. Jeremiah does something and his little brother. Things happen and Jeremiah and Laura start a friendship of hardships and many other things. To know what all went on in Jeremiah life you will need to pick this book up to read.

Mystery Author Framed for Murder by Her Own Manuscript
Melinda has a reputation for taking pleasure in being mean to people. Even though Charlee Russo is an author this agent represents, she’s seen Melinda’s mean streak before. So it isn’t necessarily a surprise when Melinda winds up murdered. What is a surprise is the method – straight out of Charlee’s just submitted book. Clearly, someone in her life is trying to frame her for murder. But which of her friends could it be?
Early on, I was worried that I was about to be flooded with suspects. While there are a lot, they were presented in a way that it was easy to remember them as the book went along. It also helped that potential series regulars are also suspects and that the characters are distinct. I did feel like the plot focused on one aspect of the mystery over some of the others, but there was still a good twist or two and the ending had me turning pages as quickly as possible.
