Rickey A. Mossow Jr. (689 KP) rated Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) in Movies

Good soundtrack carries a watered-down, simplified biopic.
Knew what to expect heading into this one, just didn't expect it to be so formulaic. It's almost as if one of the VH1 Behind The Music writers was now writing rock biopics. It follows the same formula to the letter. While it was interesting to delve into the life of Mercury and bandmates, it all felt a little watered down and simplified in contrast with the larger than life enigma that was the Queen lead singer. The amazing soundtrack carries the film and tries to fill in the empty spaces the writers left in the plot. Also felt the film left you feeling too happy in what truly is a tragic tale of rock lore. Mercury and Queen are bigger and so much more than this film portrays.
Vicki Coyne (45 KP) rated The Bookish Life of Nina Hill in Books

The writing is conversational and witty, welcoming the reader right in (2 more)
The story flows really well to the point where it never seems like a good place to stop
It takes on anxiety, social awkwardness and modern family structures without breaking stride
Well written, funny and welcoming. Couldn't put it down.
Nina Hill is anxious, a control freak, competitive, smart and completely socially awkward. And you'll love her.
The story takes you briefly through her life growing up and gradually offers explanation for each of the character traits as her present story evolves.
I love that there are a couple of threads to the story and not just the love interest part.
Completely engaging and unputdownable.

Captivating...
Bernie Madoff. What can you say? His Ponzi scheme was so complex, far-reaching and of epic proportions, it ruined many people's lives. Tore their life savings from them based on the betrayal of trust.
"Rain Man' director, Barry Levinson, successfully captures the intrigue, suspense, and also the interesting family dynamics in this compelling true story.
If the family dynamics are to be believed as his wife and sons did not know about any of the lies and fraudulent trading, they were either incredibly naive, incredibly stupid or just living the good life..
De Niro gives one of his most memorable recent performances and almost makes you sympathize with him. The actual reporter who wrote the book plays herself well in the film also.
Was Madoff a sociopath?

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated I Like That About Her: Book 2 in Books
May 28, 2018
When I read the description I was heartbroken. The love story between Chandler and Faith was perfect! But, I know life changes and so do we, so I wanted to see what happened. Mitchell again does a flawless job with well developed characters and creating emotions that, as a reader, I could feel. It is easy to get immersed in these books. Also, good to remember that everything changes.

Dark realistic Irish prison drama
Michael inside has won a lot of awards but is it as good as the hype? Well yes and no. If you don't like those slow bleak indie films you won't like this, if you do then this will be a classic. Dafhyd Flynn who plays Michael does it in a convincing understated way. This is prison life with the glamour removed. A cracking film.

Stop The Runaway Train Before Its Too Late
I have seen this movie about 6-7 times now. Each time i watch it, its a good time. The action, the drama and the suspense. Both Denzel and Chris do a excellent job in ths film which is inspired by true events.
The plot: When a massive, unmanned locomotive roars out of control, the threat is more ominous than just a derailment. The train is laden with toxic chemicals, and an accident would decimate human life and cause an environmental disaster. The only hope of bringing the train to a safe stop is in the hands of a veteran engineer (Denzel Washington) and a young conductor (Chris Pine), who must risk their lives to save those in the runaway's path. Inspired by true events.
Its a good movie.
