It's strange that Jack Black has found his niche in making kids movies. I thought he was great as the eccentric uncle, and Cate Blanchett was a good counterbalance. Their banter was enough to keep me entertain most of the film.
Yes, the story line is very predictable, and you would think it's because there have been so many films like it before, but since the book was written in the 1970s, I'm assuming all of the other films were originally riffing off this story.
The costumes and visuals were great, and I liked the creepy vibe. Eli Roth did a pretty good job keeping it PG. It wasn't great, but I didn't hate my life while watching it.

Regardless, I want Lloyd. Diane doesn't deserve Lloyd, I do. Just kidding (not really). I thought this film was good. Very 80s, duh, but good! It didn't go the way I thought it would. I thought the iconic scene would be at the end, in the way that the iconic scene is at the end of The Breakfast Club (my favorite), but I have lived and learned. It is not at the end.
I think this movie is a perfect cozy-night-in watch by yourself or with friends. I am definitely going to keep it on my watchlist to come back to ever so often. I love Lloyd. Okay, that's all.

The plot: Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a man of mysterious origin who believes he has put the past behind him, dedicates himself to creating a quiet new life. However, when he meets Teri (Chloƫ Grace Moretz), a teenager who has been manhandled by violent Russian mobsters, he simply cannot walk away. With his set of formidable skills, McCall comes out of self-imposed retirement and emerges as an avenging angel, ready to take down anyone who brutalizes the helpless.
Its a excellent movie and a must watch film.

Benefits greatly from a strong performance from Jason Clarke as one of King's Everyman protagonists, driven into very bad choices; John Lithgow is also good value as the neighbourhood's Creepy Exposition Yokel. The pacing is a bit skewed, but the film digs profitably into ideas of grief and madness, although some may find it tough to watch in a not-very-fun way due to some of the subject matter. A competent and enjoyable piece of high-class schlock.

Typing in to the search bar is a pain in the a*** when you use the accompanying remote, so I downloaded the Fire TV app and it has made the experience a hell of a lot easier. Especially considering my phone is always by my bedside, and the remote always seems to get lost in the sheets.
