Soulful Baker: From highly creative fruit tarts and pies to chocolate, desserts and weekend brunch with Julie Jones, and Lisa Linder is one of those gorgeous cookery books that is great for any time of year, but especially for people who like to cook more around Christmas.

This is more than a cookery book, it’s actually a lovely reminder of how the author and her mum began cooking together again, after her mum was diagnosed with dementia. As a form of mutual therapy they shared their joint love of cooking over on Instagram and gained many followers.

These are simple recipes but done in such an elaborate way, I too was managed to fool people I was good at cooking! There are detailed ingredients and easy to understand methods to follow. Plus there are many equally tasty looking colourful photos to inspire you.

Beautiful and moving. Not the usual thing you’d say about a cookbook, right?

“Soulful Baker” is a bakery book with heart.

This is the last book in the Christian suspense series, Planted Flowers. As with the other books in the Planted series, this is more than just a book of mystery and romance. The underlining story has to do with finding faith, strength, understanding, and support while gaining a deeper relationship with God and his teachings.

Important Middle Grade Read

I don't expect much from middle grade books, so I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Isabelle has some very real problems that can be hard for anyone to deal with, and she is trying her best to handle everything. I love that as soon as her mother finds out Isabelle is forcing herself to throw up, she sends her to group therapy. This book has a great message. Telling the readers that if they need help get it, and if they see some in there life needs help encourage them to get it. Its also very realistic. Isabelle has to got to multiple sessions, and receives some one on one counseling before she sees any improvement. My only complaint is that I wish Ashley had her own book. I didn't feel like her story was finished, and I really would like to read things from her perspective.

Kudos to the killer

The story links back to a serial killer who was previously carrying out murders in other countries and has passed this proclivity on to another country.

From the start we are introduced to the killer which of course the detectives and unaware of. This added character helps with the darkness of the killer and really makes them seem threatening. It links to the idea of dream therapy throughout the book.

I like the main detectives, I felt they were believable and human. I was pleasantly surprised when the current mystery was linked to a previous case.

Overall the case was well thought out, made sense and kept you hooked.

My reason for 8 star is just down to the ending which I felt was a little rushed and the lack of emphasis on the second killer. I actually had to flick back through the book to remember who they were.
