Gripping horror/thriller that is a story in 2 parts
This film starts off as a paranormal horror film, a family apparently being haunted by strange forces, but suddenly turns completely around into something much more realistic, though still thrilling.
No spoilers given, but I loved the sudden twist and the "aaaaah" moment where the viewer realises what has been happening, as the first half is re-told from a different perspective.
The film builds to a gripping conclusion and has several more twists and surprises along the way, keeping the viewer guessing.
One gripe is the music - loud blaring horn used to build up tension becomes very annoying very quickly.

"I get so much pleasure from the interplay between Bette Davis and Anne Baxter in this film. My favorite thing is that long party sequence. I’m struck by the challenge of shooting something like that, of tracking all the people on-screen and letting the drama unfold slowly over an extended period of time. There’s something thrilling about the progression of Davis’s character into drunken sloppiness, as she watches her lover become more and more fascinated with this younger woman. Her emotional unraveling, and the way the camera follows Davis’s performance, shows what can happen when a great director gets to work with a great actor."

"I remember this movie winning everything right around the time I was starting to pay attention to film. Seeing it as a little kid, I thought it was scary and thrilling and very “adult.” Now that I’m an actual adult, I find that the film remarkably hasn’t aged at all, and that there are new things to appreciate each time I return to it. The filmmaking is so masterful it’s become a kind of blueprint, and the way Demme is able to use his craft to transform the pulpy, lurid material at the core of the film into something so serious and artful is really incredible"

Story flowed perfectly
Edge of your seat film
Absolutely brilliant, only came across a select series of films that matched up the first and this one has now made that list. a thriller full of tense moments that had me sitting at the edge of my seat. couldn't look away. There better be a third one @johnkrasinski because i was enamoured. The growth of the young characters is great and the new character (who is actually an old character) which combined well in the story. amazing that time was taken to explain how it all happened in this film and also leaving it a place for a 3rd.

Rope
Rope- is one of my faviorte alfred hitchcock's films.

Its mysterious, thrilling, suspenseful, dramatic, twisted, keep on making you guest until the end.

The plot: Just before hosting a dinner party, Philip Morgan (Farley Granger) and Brandon Shaw (John Dall) strangle a mutual friend to death with a piece of rope, purely as a Nietzsche-inspired philosophical exercise. Hiding the body in a chest upon which they then arrange a buffet dinner, the pair welcome their guests, including the victim's oblivious fiancée (Joan Chandler) and the college professor (James Stewart) whose lectures inadvertently inspired the killing.

I would highly reccordmend watching this movie.
