"I had never heard of this film—I only saw it recently. It’s truly brilliant. An old couple from a small town in Japan decide to visit their children in Tokyo, who disappointingly have little time to spend with them. It’s a film about the misunderstanding between generations and the end of one’s life. It’s romantic, realistic, and very poignant."

"Tokyo monogatari, perhaps better known to non-Nipponophiles as Tokyo Story. Any film by the great Yasujiro Ozu will do, especially if it has Japan’s walked-away-in-mid-career huge star, the divine, mysterious, heart-seducing Setsuko Hara, who, Garbo-like and at the peak of her popularity, vanished into obscurity, never to return to the screen. I discovered her hideout in Kamakura, Japan, and briefly glimpsed her, refuting my cabdriver’s assurance that she was long dead. She lives yet, in her mid-nineties. Don’t pass this way without losing your heart to Miss Hara—Japan’s “eternal virgin”—on the screen. Also, same film, the great Chishu Ryu, who teaches the entire acting profession how to play, at a still youngish age, an ancient and enfeebled oldster. He is, one critic said, “old in his bones.”"

One thing I can respect about Tokyo Drift is its commitment to being about street racing, doubling down just before the franchise starts going ham.
The Tokyo setting is a nice change of scenery, and Justin Lin gives us a few solid race scenes in his first F&F effort but this one just didn't do it for me otherwise.
The lead character is a complete wet flannel, and all of the surrounding characters are just sort of there. It makes the corny dialogue even harder to stomach than before. Its a far cry from Paul Walker and co.
The copious amounts of high school drama on display is jarring as well.

Its not as tight as the first film, and not as silly as the second, and the end result is a rather forgettable if (sometimes) enjoyable racing film, nothing more.

A simple and short action film that pacts a big punch. It doesn't disappoint when it comes to the action watching giant robots and alien creatures have a scrap in a major city. Would have been nice to see a few more robot designs and more alien screen time. If you liked the first one you'll enjoy this.
