"“Redoubt” isn’t Matthew Barney’s finest work (“River of Fundament” would be on my top 10 of the decade list I haven’t bothered to make), but his control of rhythm, editing and non-verbal storytelling is unmatched. I wonder what it would be like if he made one of those Pixar shorts that play before features. As a rule, I generally try not to put movies by close friends on these lists but I’ve known Daniel Schmidt since we went to NYU together and couldn’t believe the leap forward he (and Gabriel Abrantes) made with “Diamantino.” I think these two would be a swell double feature. Speaking of double features…"

Stranger Things meets Slasher
Part one of this Horror trilogy on Netflix doesn't disappoint. Seems like it's been a good while since we had a decent modern slasher film. This feels like a 90's horror, and does well to set the scene for '94. It starts with a great pre title scene similar to films like Scream. The killer outfits look good, another very Scream like. The film slows in pace a little towards the end but overall it's very enjoyable. A long with a decent 90's soundtrack to top it off. Roll on part 2 next week.

"This is from a fantastic 1950s film that exposed Brazilian music to the outside world. It's the story of Orpheus set to Brazilian carnival, and it's very beautiful, melancholic, and full of these really captivating rhythms. I got into it first on tour doing OK Computer, a time where I felt very lost, personally and emotionally, which felt ridiculous when I was on the top of the world with my band. Inside, I needed to sort my shit out, and this album allowed me to cry. A few years later, my first son kicked for the first time when he heard his, and that's why we called him Salvador.

"I would like to go on record as saying that creating a top ten list is a living nightmare and I don’t know how anyone does it. That being said, let’s come out of the gate, straddling a bomb, with Dr. Strangelove. It’s perhaps an overstatement to say this movie shaped my entire conception of comedy, but it’s not that much of an understatement either. So: a statement. To me, this is the best Kubrick film. I think of the line “Don’t say that you’re more sorry than I am, because I’m capable of being just as sorry as you are” all the time."

Insane story
Rooster Teeth cast cameos
Give a bunch of gamer enough money to create a horror film...
So the Rooster Teeth team created a horror movie... we know the create some epic entertainment that doesn’t take itself seriously (Red vs. Blue, RWBY). Now give them the means to create the horror movie we’ve all discussed when hanging out... all the ideas in one... then use a festival so it makes sense for so many different horror genres to collide in one movie.
Reminiscent of the B-movies of the 60s-80’s that now hold “Iconic Cult Status” & that’s what you get from this film.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018)
2018 | Adventure, Animation, Comedy
Sequel to Wreck-it Ralph, in which Ralph and Venelope travel to the internet in search of a replacement part for a broken wheel in Venelope's Sugar Rush arcade race.

It's not a bad film: animation (as expected) is top notch, and it has the requisite life lesson thrown in for good measure, but for me this just seemed somewhat lacklustre compared to the earlier entry. I did enjoy all the various internet nods throughout, however (some way more obvious that others - Amazon, E-Bay, Google, etc) - and the scene with the Disney Princesses are amongst the contender for the best of the film, but all-in-all ...

Mind hunting with intelligence.
A great second season, definitely on a par with the first if not slightly better.

Set in the late 1970s and early 80's the story follows the early stages of the Behavioral Science Unit and how they developed the profiling of criminals by talking to the serial killers who were behind bars.

Season 2 managed to top the first and also leave room got some great character development especially with the Tench family storyline. Great acting by everyone involved making it a very cerebral drama with very little action but riveting all the same.
