Growing in God's Love: A Story Bible by Elizabeth F. Caldwell; Carol A. Wehrheim is an illustrated book that pays attention to quality and detail. While it says it is a book that children can read, I believe it should be read to children.  I am impressed with this book, the wording, and I like how it is designed to be interactive between adult and child with three simple questions at the end of each story.

Most of the stories are between one and two pages counting the illustrations and three questions and start at the beginning of the Bible in Genesis and through the old testament and then into the new testament. The verse location in the Bible is given under the story title.

The author did a great job of covering Bible topics in a way that children can understand but in a way that adults can gain a blessing as well.

I received an ARC from Westminster John Knox Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It took me a while before i finally picked this book up but i am so glad that i did. The story can be a little slow at times but not so much that you want to give up on it. You cant help but love all the main characters and hate the ones who deserve to be hated. You know right from the beginning that someone dies and you spend the entire book guessing who and hoping it's not certain characters. The book covers the topics of bullying and domestic abuse so it can be a little touchy for some but not so intense that its too hard to read. I have been known to figure out the ending of some books but i can definitely say that i did not see this one coming. The surprise ending was most certainly that. My mouth was literally hanging open when it all came together. I love the way the author writes and i can not wait to read the rest of her books.

A good introduction to philosophy
If, like me, you suddenly found yourself interested in philsophy, this book is a good place to start. It covers the basic topics in philsophy and mostly explains them in an easy to understand way for a novice. There is a chapter, about zombies and robots, that takes a couple of reads, that is the hardest part of the book. You have to think differently in philosophy and this books help you guide your mind into thinking a different way, looking at things in a different way.
Everyone should read a little philosophy, expand their minds and question their beliefs. It's how people grow and move forward.
I know people think philosophy is not 'worth it', Lawrence Krauss for one (I like his books too), but all the sciences started as philosophy. They were thought experiments, until they were practical and got their own subject heading.
Want to know what philosophy is all about? This is a good place to start.

Nov 20, 2019 (Updated Nov 20, 2019)
There have been a few posts on here about favourite/greatest Christmas movies and it's one of those topics that is always hotly debated. So... I decided to create 'The Smashbomb Greatest Movie of 2019' competition! 50 movies (apologies if your favourite didn't make the cut), split into 2 groups. In the coming weeks leading up to Christmas I will run a poll for each block of 5 so that you can vote for your favourite, with the top 2 from each block moving onto the next round. At that point, each group will have 10 movies in the next round and there will then be a poll to cover each block of 5. The top 3 from each group will then move onto the final deciding poll! The attached image will (hopefully) explain the process a bit better and if this isn't easily readable then I will put a hi-res version online, updated regularly as the competition progresses. The first poll will be up on here shortly - I look forward to seeing what the definitive best Christmas movie is!
