I know I'm not alone in feeling like this isn't exactly what I was expecting out of it - and normally I'm averse to this recent brand of doom-and-gloom, slow, often derivative apocalypse drama. But I think especially with the recent events in Canada as well as inequality during the COVID-19 pandemic this kind of authentic representation and potent anti-colonialist subtext rings as loud as it ever has - packs a *deafening* emotional wallop. I would have preferred trading out the A24-style blue collar weariness which I thought we were finally done with for something less purposefully sluggish, but on the same coin at least the metaphor actually works - and isn't about a random white person's trauma for the 800th time. Plus it's hard to shake a stick at anything that - at its best - harkens back to the days when "The Walking Dead" was actually good while featuring such strong, tangible moodiness and solid gore in its wake. And the cherry on top, it's only a cool 98 minutes so it's easily forgiven for being a tad messy and not focusing on enough characters properly. Looks mostly great, too - those animated segments ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Murder, Mayhem, and Magic in Japan
Jaya has a week off for Thanksgiving break, and she is heading to Kyoto, Japan, where her best friend, Sanjay, is appearing in a televised magic event along with a Japanese star. And Jaya is hoping to connect with a local professor who has just reached out for her help about a trading ship lost to history. Jaya has only been there for a few hours when she realizes a mysterious Ninja is following her. The magician that Sanjay is working with is keeping a secret close to his vest. Then, Sanjay and Jaya find a body at the bottom on an embankment. Can Jaya figure out what is going on in time to keep Sanjay safe?

This book emphasized magic a bit more than treasure hunts, but that element was still here. Either way, outside the pacing once or twice, I enjoyed this book. That included the bit of history we learned along the way. Sanjay annoyed me a little at times, but I understood where he was coming from most of the time. The rest of the cast were great, and I enjoyed the updates we got on the characters. If you havenโ€™t picked up this book yet, youโ€™ll enjoy it.

If you are good at Rolling dice, this game is great (0 more)
if you are Bad at rolling dice, this game hates you.... (0 more)
It's a good game to trading and playing the odds
Picking a settlement means picking specific numbers to get specific resources. when rolling two dice the most likely roll is a 7 statistically. with 6's and 8's being the next most and so on both up and down. Starting the game fast is vital so your placements are vital. then you collect resources and build from there. Negotiation with your neighbors to trade what you have to get what you need is a great part of the game.... unless you play with the people who just don't trade.... which happens. Also if the rolls are going to everyone else's numbers and not yours, there is literally nothing you can do about it. This game can be both amazing and frustrating at the same time, and with the right people this is a great time. It has some flaws but over all it's a great gateway game into modern board games, and everyone should play it once in their lifetimes even if you out grow it shortly after.... If all you play is monopoly and scrabble, this is a game that will blow your mind.
