Sara Cox (1845 KP) rated City of Djinns: A Year In Delhi in Books

This is a very different kind of travel writing. Not only is there experience, but there is also a lot of history and so much can be learnt about the colonisation of India by the British and what happened after the British left. There are moments when experiences tug of your heartstrings, make you mad and make you happy. It's written very well, and highly recommended.

Somebody stop the planet! I want to get off!!
Disaster movie starring Aaron Eckhart and Hilary Swank as part of a crew who are assembled to travel deep (deep) underground, down to the Earths core, when it stops spinning leading to world wide natural disasters.
In other words, forget the ridiculous premise and go for the effects - some of which are like something from the 1970s! - instead.

Superheroes, time travel, doughnuts and talking chimps
Contains spoilers, click to show
Another day another superhero tv show - right?? Well this one is really something special. Was hooked from episode 1. The best way I can describe it is a not as dark watchmen tv series. Bunch of kids with powers adopted by man who turns them into a superhero team. Years later they reunite when their 'father' dies. Then happens time travel, drugs, assassins, talking chimps, bird watching, robots, JFK conspiracies, the apocalypse and doughnuts! Like watchmen this has an amazing soundtrack which adds to the quality of the show. This would get 10 out of 10 but I just find Ellen Page terrible and every scene with her just made me cringe so (SPOILER) when she turns out to be the villain (sort of) I was quite pleased!! Watch this show!!!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2099 KP) rated Murder Packs a Suitcase (Murder Packs a Suitcase, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Mallory Marlowe is attempting to get her life back together after her husband's accidental death. Her new job is as a travel writer, and her first stop is Orlando, where she is part of a press tour. Their first night there, the obnoxious member of the group is found floating in a fountain. Even though she just met him, Mallory is the prime suspect. Can she figure out who really did it? I found Mallory a charming travel companion. Occasionally the bits about the tour were a little long, but the mystery moved along as a consistently fast pace even if it did rely on coincidence a little more then I would have liked. This was my first book by Cynthia Baxter, but I will be reading more.

Gerard Butler vs Comet ... but not what you would think
Well, that was different than I expected.
If you said the words 'Gerard Butler' and 'Comet' to me (or pretty much anyone else) prior to this, I'm sure they would envision some form of action movie, where Butler single-handedly saves the world.
In other words, I was expecting something like 'Armageddon 2.0'. 'Deep Impact 2.0'. 'Geostorm 2.0'.
This is nothing like any of those.
Instead, this is really a family drama, with the Garrity's selected by the US government (via random lottery) to travel to a safe(r) location when parts of the comet start striking Earth - things, however, prove not the be as straightforward as expected when they are denied travel due to their son's diabetic condition.
Personally, I also think it probably would have been better with the more ambiguous ending hinted at in the final act.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Beyond the Fortuneteller's Tent (Beyond, #1) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[Beyond the Fortuneteller's Tent] by [Kristy Tate] was a great twist on YA romance. It involves time travel and finding your true love. The adventures and twists make this story different than your typical YA paranormal romance (a genre too filled with vampires).
I compared it to the [Outlander] series but PG because I would be disturbed to see my students reading [Galbadon] but would gladly recommend the [Beyond] books.

Decent Sci-Fi Thriller
I remember this seem to go under the radar on release, I think it only had a short run at the cinema. Some kids take up a science project and manage to come up with a time travel device... But things don't go well when you mess with time! The SFX are quite good for the budget. I really enjoyed it and would watch again.

A convoluted plot with a badly thought out time travel element (2 more)
A very clumsily filmed final fight scene. I mean there was too much going on, you couldn't process anything.
That scene where all the female superheroes bad together. I'm not against feminism, but that was forced in there for no actual reason.
Wasn't a fan

I don’t have time for a full review so here’s an abbreviated one. It was good. You should see it. Acting was awesome. Plot was engaging. Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks weird with Bruce Willis nose. Dystopian society scenes were fascinating. Emily Blunt is a total babe.
