I was completely blown away by this powerful and heart-wrenching story about family, love, perseverance, and loss!

This novel was inspired by the horrifying true events of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society, run by Georgia Tann from the 1920’s-1950’s. The plot is written from two points of view, weaving between past and present, this is the story of how one family’s past has shaped its present. Lisa Wingate’s writing is absolutely flawless. She pulls you deep into the lives of each character where you feel like you are inside the novel witnessing all these heinous events up close.

Before We Were Yours is one of the best historical fiction books I have read to date, it will definitely stay with me for a very long time. Highly recommend!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a quick and cute story. Although it makes me never want to go to a restaurant again, it just goes to show how a crazy turn of events (or several, in this case) can change the course of someone's life.

At the start, Daniel's on a mission to complete a goal he's promised in memory of his mother. Then all sorts of accidental and zany happenings occur, and we truly get an "unbelievable" story. It's one of those "so crazy it MUST be true" types of stories, and it definitely had me laughing and thoroughly involved until the very end. I'd love to read more stories like this from the author.

Hard to get into
I started this book a few weeks ago and I really couldn't get into it. I kept putting it down and struggled to be excited to pick it up again and get stuck into it. I found it very vague and patchy in the first half of the book because the paragraphs are short in places and don't seem to follow any kind of story, I know that's because it's in diary form. The second half of the book seemed to pick up momentum and I would of preferred the book to have been written as a story instead of diary form. Despite not enjoying it that much I felt I owed it to the author to finish it because of the awful things she experienced.

This movie is based on the true life story of carley Allison (whom I'd never heard of until watching the movie) a teen figure skater who is faced with a rare form of throat cancer, but bravely stays positive and continues trying to achieve her dreams whilst also holding down a relationship.
The movie itself was OK, I did feel happy and also sad for her at times. But what was off putting was the constant narration and time jumps, I feel it would have been a better movie without all that and instead focus on the story itself.
I didn't find out until the credits rolled that the person who played carley in the movie, was real life carleys best friend. I found that absolutely amazing that she was able to do that.
