When TessÂ’ sister Edie disappeared 20 years ago, the case went cold. Now her body has at last been discovered and Tess travels back to her hometown to find out what really happened to her. Who can she really trust from her past?

If you are looking for a thriller with a difference, you will not be disappointed by this. This is a fantastic story with an ending you won't see coming. This debut thriller has red herrings and twists to keep you guessing to the very end. Fabulous fast paced read and the author has a way of drip feeding you little bits at a time and you won't want to stop til you have reached the end.
You have here a thick plot with loads of suspense, well structured characters. The story is done in two timelines that keeps you held in utter suspense. This story is dark, twisted, creepy and very atmospheric; you won't be able to put this one down!
Make this one of your must reads....Highly recommend!!!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy.

My kind of fairytales
I really did enjoy The Hazel Wood but I might be a bit biased because I really love Fairytales especially the darker more Twisted original versions of fairy tales and the Hazel Wood really captured the essence of what made me really love those type of stories.

Alice is really one of those characters where you're not quite sure if you like her you don't like but in the end I really did grow to appreciate her Melissa Albert really put a lot of thought into the character and the concept of Nature vs nurture. And one of my favorite things about Alice is that she is really under no illusion that she is a good person she knows she's messed up and owns it pretty well.

The one thing I really wished was explored more were the other fairy tales since we only really get to know two of them The Hazel Wood is a universe I would definitely love to come back to and be able to learn more about

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Holy s**t! This book *definitely* lives up to the "extreme horror" label on its cover. The Dills are sick and twisted, the mannequins scared the hell out of me, and it just gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it) from there. From the very start, I was completely engrossed in the story and had to tear myself away from it to work, eat, or sleep (which didn't come easily after reading at night). I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who loves an awesome horror novel, although I'd caution that you'll wind up checking all your locks, under the bed, in the closets, etc. for many nights after you finish. I'm looking forward to the film version if it ever comes to light, but I'm sure I'll make it a daylight viewing.

Thanks for the scares, Mark, and I hope you continue for many years to come! =)

Chilling twist on what is a classic tale
This story is set just after the classic Alice in Wonderland book that most will know and love.
It starts of in a mental institution where Alice is resident. Her parents putting her in there after her "adventures" in Wonderland. She has a relationship with the man in the next cell called Hatcher, three guesses who he is supposed to represent.
This whirlwind adventure takes you through a Victorian esq London with all the characters of the classic story.
It is a very dark adaptation of Alice in Wonderland and I have to say kept me guessing throughout.
The characters seem familiar but in a dark and twisted way and ultimately it's about Alice's journey after escaping the mental home with her companion Hatcher.
I will not say anymore as it will spoil the storyline but it is definitely worth a look.
Christina Henry has definitely made an amazing book and since I read this I went out and bought all her books.

Unusual and left you wanting more
This author is truly amazing. She is able to take well know tales/ folk lores and turn them into gripping novels. This book is no different. I found this enchanting tale after reading her Chronicles of Alice series of books.
She has taken the story of Bo Burnham and the little mermaid and amalgamated them into what is an amazing read.
In short the story is about a mermaid who wants to see the world. She is taken in by Burnham with a promise of money to show the world her mermaid tricks. Safe to say that like all of Christina Henry's other books it takes a dark and twisted turn however seems to work out well in the end.
There are definitely some moments in the book where i was worried to read on as i thought something really bad was going to happen.
It kept me on the edge of my seat through out and was a wonderful tale of the darkness of men and magic.

The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) (2011)
The Skin I Live In (La piel que habito) (2011)
2011 | Drama, Horror, International, Mystery
Operatically twisted (and twisty) erotic psycho-horror-thriller-drama from Almodovar. Brilliant scientist and surgeon (Banderas) seems to be keeping a young woman (Anaya) prisoner in his house, and performing various experiments on her (even his mum thinks he is insane). But the truth turns out to be a little more complicated than it at first seems...

Initially seems like much more of a plot-driven genre movie than is typical for this director, but the familiar themes (sex, desire, obsession, family ties) soon resurface albeit in somewhat modulated form. The plot grips like a vice, the performances are superb, it looks fabulous, and the (warped) sensuality of the film makes most so-called erotic thrillers look very bland and tame. This would qualify as a masterpiece, as good as anything Almodovar has ever done, except for the ending, which feels like a significant misstep, stumbling for conventional closure in a way that just doesn't ring true or feel satisfying. Nevertheless, a brilliant piece of film-making. (Do NOT read or hear a plot synopsis before watching if you can possibly avoid it.)
