"When I heard this I was just completely floored. I was like 'What the fuck is this?' [Laughs]. Radio was amazing, it was so good. Similarly to Public Enemy, I heard this album and I wanted to know how he did it – I just had no idea how. He was talking my language and speaking to me but in styles I had never heard or experienced before. I wanted to know how he did this. The whole album is fire; the beats were hard and the rhymes were hard. It banged and undoubtedly became the sound of a generation. It was almost like punk rock in sentiment, urban punk rock which is effectively what hip hop is. It didn't matter which part of the world you were from either when you listened to this. The people that got this record were all going through the same shit. The worlds might have been somewhat different, but it was the same oppressive shit and it united people."

Admittedly fantasy books aren't my favourite (neither are books over 400pgs) and this took me a little time to get into. It was probably about the time Declan was properly introduced that my interest was piqued. At the same time though, I was still struggling with the story. I'd say it was from about a third of the way in when it started to grow on me, as did Declan.

It had an interesting concept with the two linked worlds--one fantasy-esque with nobles and the likes and the other a lot like the world now--with a thin strip known as The Edge linking them together.

I didn't always understand what was happening, especially at the beginning, but it was explained in more detail the more I read of the book.

This is my second book by the author and I think I might read more of her Kate Daniels series since I prefer more paranormal romance/urban fantasy books than just normal fantasy.

I really enjoyed this.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the amount of 1 and 2 star reviews for this, but I have to say I liked it. Okay, so it wasn't a typical paranormal romance. It has several gory scenes and some scary characters but there's still romance in it. And it's probably leaning more toward Urban Fantasy with a splash of Horror mixed in. I'll say it isn't for the squeamish because there are some detailed scenes of deformity and injuries and it isn't always pretty reading.

I really liked the two main characters, Nathan and Carrie, and some of the lesser seen ones; Ziggy, Max and the butler that I've currently forgotten the name of :S.

The progression of Carrie from concerned Doctor to kick-arse vampire hunter was an interesting journey and I loved her relationship with Nathan. They are so good together.
