The Vengeance of She (1968)
1968 | Fantasy
Bargain basement Hammer fantasy sequel manages to ditch almost everything that gave the original film its class. Plot is basically a role-reversal of the original film; Richardson's character has gone mad (we are invited to infer) and regressed to the personality of his previous incarnation (film doesn't actually make sense otherwise); awaits the arrival of the reincarnation of Ursula Andress (not that Berova looks that much like her); cult of sorcerers offer to speed her arrival in return for the secret of immortality.

Basically just quite pedestrian and dull, with lots of messing about on a rich man's yacht that doesn't do a great deal to advance the plot. Some potentially interesting ideas are ignored in favour of potboiler romance and fantasy melodrama. Production values basically scream that the movie was made on a very low budget. Andre Morell is the best thing in it, and he's not in it all that much.

Molly the Mole: A Story to Help Children Build Self-Esteem by Alice ReevesĀ is part of the Truth and Tails series, specifically regarding Self-Esteem. Molly is feeling sad because she is comparing herself to her friends. She does not think she measures up in various areas. Through helping her friends with different things, they help to show her that she has other traits and qualities that make her special too. The lesson of being yourself and feeling good about it is one important message, but also accepting each other for who they are and for whatever their talents and skills might be.

The questions at the end of the book to promote discussion are an added bonus. This is a good addition to an elementary class to help develop values and positive character.

I give this book 4/5 stars. I received an ARC from the publisher,Jessica Kingsley Publishers, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A real tearjerker of a documentary
It felt weird rating this documentary as "epic," but whatever.

I saw this in theaters this week and cried like a little girl. This is a documentary about a wonderful man who did wonderful things. It showcased how he cared--truly, truly cared--and it called on the audience to remember his message: that you don't have to do anything spectacular to be special. You're perfect just the way you are. You have inherent value as a person, and you deserve to be loved and to be able to love.

If ever there was a man who embodied Christian values, it was Mr. Rodgers. The interviews here were especially poignant. They have the diverse cast and crew offer their memories and opinions. Some are heartbreaking, like interview with Francois "Officer" Clemmons.

Do yourself a favor. Watch this documentary. Remember what you learned all those years ago: you are perfect just the way you are.

This tv show is one of the best I've ever seen. It keeps me on my toes always keeps me guessing. My emotions are everywhere in a good way though. It has very strong family values throughout the entire season. They deal with good and bad. They are put to the test constantly. Every supernatural thing you can think of is in it including regular people. They go through many trials weather its personally or friends or the supernatural things. The world is is literally on there shoulders and they have to at times save the world from impending doom. I highly recommend the supernatural series.

This guy ain't clowning around...
Clown is like a classic twilight-zone style curse movie, where a dad puts on an antique clown suit, which turns out to have dire consequences that essentially turn him into a child eating killer clown.

There are some great comedic moments, as you would expect, some gross body horror, gruesome kills and actually pretty good performances.

Despite the b-movie plot, the acting is very solid, and the whole feel is of a well-made, well budgeted horror film, that would not have been out of place on a decent cinema release.

There are plenty of plot holes, bad decisions and parts that drag on a little, but overall this is a pretty entertaining movie, which provides a throwback experience to an 80's style slasher but with modern production values, so what is not to like?

Couldn't put it down
Just closed the covers and really hope someone will read my review and read this. If historical Romances are your thing I think this one will be one for you!
It's such an easy book to get into. I read about 100 pages in one go and finished it quicker than most books I read.
I just found the story compelling, gripping and inspiring. It's not your typical romance, as the romance side is more on the back burner (I'd still put it in the Historical Romance category) and it's more about independence, hard work, determination, women's struggles in that era, friendship and family values. It's not often I find a book I don't see one fault with so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. It's not a 10 as I save my ten for my utmost favourites, although this is blummin' close.

This was both fun and grim
This was an interesting book and for all you feminists out there, quite amusing. The author covered a range of issues which are still relevant today such as, the way food is grown, cultivated and harvested, the values of being kind to the earth. It covered the way that children are educated. There is an excellent piece on religion which I personally found amusing, being an atheist. Considering the time period in which the novella was written, this book is like a mirror on society, especially a patriarchal society.
The sentence structure is clunky, annoyingly long but typical of late Victorian work. The ending is frustrating as it is left wide open without answers. Yet putting that aside, I really liked it. It is not my ideal female utopia, but I am sure for Perkins, in an oppressive male dominated society, it was.

The Land That Time Forgot (1975)
The Land That Time Forgot (1975)
1975 | Adventure, Fantasy
First of the Amicus-Kevin Connor-Doug McClure fantasy adventure films is an unexpectedly classy genre movie. A U-boat carrying a mix of British and German sailors (it's 1916, so tensions abound), led by a beefy American (McClure), pitches up in a lost world inhabited by the usual rubber dinosaurs and ape men.

Pulp, but superior pulp: good production values and unexpectedly thoughtful in places. Even the dinosaurs are a cut above (the pterodactyls still leave a bit to be desired). The look and feel of the thing is very good indeed, but the plot is a touch underpowered and linear. The book's ideas about the strange way evolution works in the lost world are faithfully reproduced, but not really explored enough, and don't contribute anything significant to the plot. The film's weaknesses are those of the source material, but its fidelity to Burroughs is commendable; its strengths are all its own.
