Thus was much better than the sparkly vampires on my opinion. It is one of my favorites that I read over and over. The chemistry part was onteresting, the dog wonderful, and the whole idea hooked me and didn't let go.

Received an eArc from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a wild and wacky retalling of the Oz stories involving vampires, werewolves, and zombies.

The humor is spot on and it's just gory enough!

Octavia E. Butler | 2005 | Science Fiction/Fantasy

Book Favorite

"Octavia Butler is one of my top favorite authors, and my favorite sci-fi writer of all time. Her writing is always at the intersection of race, class — and in this instance, vampires. I love fantastical things, and because this focuses on vampires and not humans it adds another element of imagination. In the book, she’s having a conversation about racism, but through vampires, and you just never know where that’s going to go. You’re reading it, reading it, reading it, and then it takes a hard left, and you’re like Oh shit, I didn’t realize we were going to go into these deep political topics. Even though she always does that in her books. I’ve read pretty much all of them, but this was my favorite. She died pretty soon after she wrote it, so it has a lot of sentimental value for me."

Love the action and when Anita uses her skills fighting vampires, not too wild about the extensive love scenes that take up page after page of the book. I'm glad action was taken on Asher and I hope it works out for him.

The characters and the their developments (0 more)
Good premise but other things could've made it better.
I loved the aspect of how witches demons and vampires lived amoung humans undetected and how they act and what not. However, I believe that because they bring up genetics and what not for certain traits vampires may have or carry. That it would be more interesting to find out more about it. The romance between the main characters was nixe, but I think I would have liked them to no have clicked so instantly and been a bit more drawn out.

In a world filled of garbage Twilight knockoffs, this book was a refreshing change to the ranks of modern day vampire novels. Instead of the usual gory, smutty drivel, this book focuses on a family of vampires trying to blend into modern day England.

I was kinda turned off on vampires by Twilight and the wave of crap that followed, but this book was actually pretty decent. It has a similar feel to Warm Bodies and the show iZombie, so if you're into either you'd probably like this book.
