Fantastic witty pre-historic Viking / Native American fantasy
This is the alternative-reality story of the Hardworkers, a small clan of Viking descendants in pre-Columbian North America. A mentally-damaged young boy in the clan has a premonition that the village will be attacked and they should head west. When the village is indeed attacked by natives (who themselves had a premonition of these Vikings ending the world), the clan quickly up-sticks and head off.
There follows a brilliant, exciting, funny story of this small clan with mixed abilities (some well trained warriors, some powerful yet cowardly warlocks, some useless wastes of space) travelling across North America, hunted by the magically-enhanced warriors sent to end them, and meeting numerous clans and tribes along the way.
The wonderful merging of plausible pre-history America and a more familiar fantasy setting (prophecies, evil empires, warriors) results in this superb story. The dialogue is witty and funny, the world is familiar yet strange enough to make you think, and the action sequences are fantastically narrated, often from different viewpoints.
The characters are all very well crafted and unique, and their interactions and conflicts really spur this story on.
I would urge anyone keen on fantasy to read this book. While the cover, and title, may suggest it is a brutal slobberknocker of a book, it is actually very clever, funny and thrilling.
I cannot wait to jump in to the next book in this trilogy. Wootah!!!

Out of this entire series thus far this is my favorite book. The author has entwined vampiric and Valkyrie mythology to bring us the explosive tale of two amazing warriors who are destined for one another. This read is a powerhouse of action and romance and I had an extremely difficult time putting this one down. I love the direction the author took with this story and I give it five stars!!!

Warriors, come out to play
Ok maybe I missed something? I'm not quite sure about the cult status for this. It's a decent film with a young cast, and probably quite different at the time it was made. However it has a very simple plot, less fighting than I expected and a bit repetitive. I liked the almost comic "uniforms" for the different gangs, some of the fight scenes are pretty good, but overall I was expecting a lot more.

[Storm Warriors] by [Elisa Carbone] has been on my reading 'pile' for sometime. As a middle school teacher I love to add books to my library. This one is definitely a gem.

The story is about the Pea Island Life Saving Station. These stations were what was to become the Coast Guard. What makes this station's story unique is it was fully manned by African Americans at a time when Jim Crow was rearing his ugly head.

I would love to read this one with my seventh graders.

I gave this movie a 6. It was a great movie dont get me wrong (watched it 5 times) but they threw in a narrator half ways threw the the movie. So either have that from the start or dont have it at all. Or make it like a wild west comic and use the format like the warriors. I just felt it was a last moment thing that was thrown together. So if it was not for the narrator it would been a high 7 or even a 8.

An early Gemmell, this is the fourth (by release date) in his Drenai saga, and - I have to say - it shows somewhat.

Whilst it is an enjoyable read, I found this one to lack the complexity of some of his later works: indeed, the very plot itself even comes across as a rough outline for his later Winter Warriors.

Having said that, I still enjoyed this one, albeit not as much as his novels that included the Drenai hero Druss (name dropped in passing - this is set centuries on), or even the assassin Waylander.

Awesome book. Well written with a great plot and characters. The world building is phenomenal! Lorna Reid is also creative making up a new sport called Aquattrox. We follow 4 teenagers who learn that their parents are warriors that can wield magic. Which in turn thrusts these 4 teens into coping with this info plus starting to dabble in magic themselves. I like what the book is hinting at where it may go, and I can't wait to read the next book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

The story continues as Glokta travels to defend the far off empire state of Dagoska from siege (and further rooting out corruption along the way) and the band of travellers head to the edge of the world. The best of the action takes place in the North where the empire is looking to teach the savage Northman a lesson - something that does not go well as a large, poorly prepared army meet a smaller collection of epic warriors afraid of nothing.
Definitely book 2 of a trilogy, this book keeps the story moving along, allows some of the characters to develop but with a little let down at the end.

Best DC movie since Dark Knight series
For once DC put a movie together that was well done all the way around. Story starts as Dianna was growing up watching the Amazon warriors train and hoping to learn their ways one day. We watch as she develops from a cute innocent little kid into a very innocent young woman. After rescuing Captain Steve from his plane crash Dianna sets out on a journey to stop Aries and bring the world to peace. Beautiful fight scenes and solid acting make this movie a great step in the right direction for DC!

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
1979 | Action, Drama, War

"One of my all-time favorites is Apocalypse Now, because it shows the craziness of war, and you have the feeling that the shooting also was a big adventure. And this is what I like. What is lost, if you see war movies today — not like Pearl Harbor, that’s one of the worst movies of all time — but like Mel Gibson‘s Once We Were Warriors or Soldiers or whatever (2002’s We Were Soldiers), all that stuff, you feel it’s all fake. You feel they go in the evenings to their hotel rooms and it’s all good. But in Apocalypse Now, you feel like these guys were f—ed!"
