Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated Sweet Revenge: Passive-Aggressive Desserts for Your Exes & Enemies in Books

So, it is always really had to write a review of a cookbook for me. One, I cannot consider it read without thinking that it is kind of cheating if I haven't made all of the recipes. So... I'm not marking this as fully read nor will I have it as a book read in 2017.
I really enjoyed the author of this book and her narration. It was quirky and fun. Honestly, I was laughing through the descriptions and her random graphics thrown in.
I loved the concept of this book but I have to wonder if the author knew her stuff when it comes to creating recipes. I cooked "You're a Total Monster" cookies and they were okay. The addition of Nacho Cheese Doritos was weird yet fun. My one complaint though was the fact that the cooking time was completely wrong and I mean completely wrong. Luckily, I was able to figure out that it should be 5 minutes and then turn for 5 more minutes. This reduced the cooking time by 8 minutes. My first batches were burnt to a crisp which annoyed me.
All in all, if you're looking for a cookbook with attitude, this is a fun one. The recipes are weird and will surely be the talk of the gathering you bring them too. Just make sure that you change cooking times if they come out burnt.
I received this book from Bookish First in Exchange for an honest review.

i didn't think hitchcock could get weirder.
This movie left a bad taste in my mouth. I felt like I needed to take a shower to get a film off my skin - like the one you get when you've been outside for too long. It was just weird. And I really thought Hitchcock couldn't get any weirder. Bruno as a character reminded me of young Charly from "Shadow of a Doubt." Just how she had this weird infatuation for her uncle, I get that same feeling about Bruno. It's clear within the first 20 minutes of the film how it's going to play out, but the ending still somehow surprises you. I guess that's a good thing. Anyways, back to Bruno. He hooks onto Guy and really sinks his claws in. The way Bruno stalks him, calls him at various locations, "runs into him" when he's out with Anne or when he's with Anne's family during lunch (or wherever they were). He just gave me a creepy feeling. He's obviously delusional but I don't think Hitchcock played it off that well. I don't know if that was on purpose or not.
By now, I think most people know how Hitchcock makes me feel (the answer is not good, I don't like most of his work that I've seen thus far), and this film did not help his case. We still have a few to go so we'll see how those play out.

Phillip McSween (751 KP) rated Dark Star (1974) in Movies

What Resolution?
Satirical movie revolving around bumbling astronauts on a mission to destroy rogue planets.
Acting: 8
Beginning: 0
Characters: 3
I honestly couldn’t tell you one redeeming thing about these characters. About the only redeeming quality was the weird ball monster that appears throughout Dark Star. Seriously, none of these characters sparked the slightest bit of interest for me.
Cinematography/Visuals: 8
I will say not bad for 1974, a year before the release of Star Wars. You get a legit space feel with this crew and I enjoyed the setpieces on-ship. The ball monster (again with this guy) was a bit offputting, but not a terrible job otherwise.
Conflict: 6
Entertainment Value: 4
Memorability: 8
Pace: 10
Sure it’s a kooky movie and you never truly understand what’s going on, but at least it’s a quick eighty-three minutes. Moves pretty quickly by the time it’s all said and done.
Plot: 3
Even after doing a quick Wiki search, I was still lost of what was going on. Just a bunch of weirdo shit happening that is random and not enjoyable. I’ve seen weird but this takes the cake.
Resolution: 0
Overall: 50
Say what you want about my scoring system, this movie got a zero in two categories and still managed to walk away with a 50. It starts off terribly and doesn’t get much better after that. Do yourself a favor and steer clear.

Laura (45 KP) rated My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009) in Movies

The first time I watched this movie was in 3D at the theater and the effects made it a little more gross. Which is great, because it's a slasher movie. Slasher movies aren't always the highest quality, but this is a fun, bloody movie with a twist that got me in the end. I was suspicious of almost every character at some point.
The problem I found on my recent viewing was minor and weird, but this takes place in a coal town in central Pennsylvania. In February. I grew up there, it's cold. But no one wears a real coat or even looks chilly in this whole movie. Just had to make that bother someone else ?

Creepy, but not too scary
Entertaining
Creepy but amazing!!
This is one of my favourite films, if not just because of the amazing acting of Anthony Hopkins!! He plays Lecter so believably, it's incredible!! He genuinely seems very creepy, and it lends the film much more entertainment value. Foster is ok in the film, but I've never been a massive fan of hers anyway. I do love the character she plays though, so that makes up for it!
This is a weird, creepy, on-the-edge film that, even though it can be slow at times, is very entertaining to watch. Would definitely recommend this, its a great film!!

An Important Read
I am not sure how I feel about the ending. Not because it's ambiguous in what happened to our narrator, but the impersonal feel of the weird lecture hall explanation of everything in the end. Discussing it without feeling. I generally dislike this view of history and think it's important to have emotions connected to the actions of the past. I do understand that the shockingly clinical look for the last ten or so pages is a stark contrast to the emotional mix we felt while listening to Offred tell the story. Also, if they had to go clinical in the end, I would have liked a few more questions answered.

What a strange tale
I guess kind of a combination of Weekend at Bernie's, Heavenly Creatures and Castaway, Swiss Army Man tells the take of a desperate man at the end of his rope until a new friend washes up on shore. The two become acquainted quickly and decide to have an adventure together.
This film falls right into my favorite genre of weird and vague, so I really enjoyed it. You have never seen anything like this film and it is entertaining throughout.
Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe make a great screen couple and you really enjoy watching them together.
Still not sure how I feel about the ending though.
