One of America's Best Animated Series
Contains spoilers, click to show
Exo Squad was a show that doesn't get the credit it deserves. This show was one of the best American made animated shows. The only show I put above it is the 90's X-Men. The premise is that humans have terraformed Mars and Venus and now can live on these planets. This show centers around a group of soldiers who pilot fighting machines called E-frames. J.T. Marsh is the leader of the group and they are at odds with Governor Phaeton, leader of the Neosapiens. Neosapiens are genetically engineered humans built to be basically slaves to Homosapiens. They are superior in strength and other things. One day, the Neosapiens decided they had enough and rose up and started a war with the Homosapiens. As I said a very well done series. Season 1 is available on DVD. I think season 2 is coming to the soon. The entire series is being streamed on the Peacock channel on roku. Give it a watch!

Meh?
"Everyone is a blank canvas, waiting to be filled with the color of discovery."

Well...

I mean I REALLY liked the story. The plot. Even the characters. And omg is this beautifully written.

"Hearts are forever scarred by our true nature."

However. This was a slooooooow burn. Very slow paced for me. For once a book where I almost felt things were too descriptive. I felt at times that I had to force myself to push through it. I was enjoying it, yes, but I was struggling to read through it. Its a feeling that I'm having a very hard time explaining, and honestly unlike anything I've ever felt when reading a book. So that was frustrating.

"The truth of what I am has become a nightmare."

Now with that being said, those last few chapters, like maybe the last 100 pages, SAVED this book for me. Things finally picked up there.

So am I glad I read it? Yes.
Is it one of my favorites? No.
But thats okay.

The beginnings of an interesting new character
I'll be honest. From what I heard about this movie, I was expecting to like it more than I did. That's not to say I didn't like it. I did. But I was expecting more. I was also expecting Enola to be more like her brother, Sherlock Holmes. But what we got is a new character, with enough differences from Sherlock himself, that the character feels totally original as well.

The story has a simple premise. Enola's mother goes missing & she goes looking for her. She's always a step ahead of her brother & using hints left by her mother, she goes on an adventure that brings her closer to her goal.

I found the movie fun & love when Enola breaks the 4th wall to talk to us. Millie Bobby Brown is great as Enola & feel like they should keep these films going.

That being said, I do wish the movie flowed a little better. It dragged here & there and seemed sometimes like we cut away to a different movie.

For such a short book, this was really, really, good. It had humour, a bit of romance and zombies.

I loved Reagan and Haley's attitude considering it's the end of the world and they are two of the few remaining humans in a world overrunning with zombies. They're always joking and having a laugh with each other.

As for the brothers. I think I loved Hendrix from the moment he was tending to Reagan's wounds and trying not to laugh at her reaction to him seeing her hairy legs (still makes me laugh just thinking about it :P). The other's we haven't really gotten to know yet but they all seem like nice guys.

There are a few wording errors but they're easy to overlook because the story is so gripping.

After being half way through I had to go and hunt out the other 11 episodes on Amazon and saw that the omnibus/boxset of books 1-6 was free as well so I quickly downloaded it and am now eagerly awaiting a time when I can find out what happens next!

Ocean’s 8 (2018)
Ocean’s 8 (2018)
2018 | Comedy, Crime
I am sure the pitch for this sounded pretty good. It is the Ocean’s franchise but with all women. What on earth could possibly go wrong? Well, the script for starters. And the sleepy direction. The normally fairly dependable Gary Ross guilty on both fronts. Although there are some nice scenes and moments in isolation (usually involving Helena Bonham- Carter, who comes out of it all best, because at least she’s funny), it is all far too pedestrian and lacks momentum. A very easy film to fall asleep during, which for a heist movie is a problem! The talent on display is largely wasted, even though in a way they all come out of it with dignity and reputation intact. One other light I took from it was thinking Rihanna as the kooky “Nine Ball” showed some potential for being a decent screen actress, which pleasantly surprised me. Again, it is just about worth watching once, but has to go down as a botched job on the whole.

Movie Favorite

"The next I would say is La Strada because, well, do I really have to say? I feel like it’s sort of self-explanatory. Like [laughs] Giulietta Masina, I mean every performance, but particularly the last scene in the movie, with Anthony Quinn and just being on the beach, and everything about that movie is beautiful. And there’s something always about his films that, knowing that audio was recorded post shooting the film — I’m pretty sure that’s true with that movie — just to know, in a way, if it is true, it’s just to know that there are two sort of performances happening simultaneously. You can see and hear that. And I love that idea and what skill and sort of the presence to this day that movie has. And it’s also personally really resonant because my father said after he saw that movie, it was what made him want to make movies, and when I finally saw it when I was a teenager, I understood why. So it inevitably has a resonance beyond the brilliance of the movie itself."

So good, I bought the second book 3 chapters in.

I can't say this for many books anymore, but I was hooked from page 1. The second I read the page about the cross thoughts and repeats being intentional, I was like 'this is gonna be good'. Juliette is so strong and beautiful and Adam is just perfect. The story flows so well and I never wanted to put it down!! And when I did have to, it was all I could think about. I was right there along with the characters, immersed in such a fantastical world Mafi thought up and shared so beautifully with us. It was like every fantasy I've ever had! Powers, romance, heroes and villains. This book will leave you wishing you were a superhero, fighting a battle for the good guys in a future so crazy, it has to be real!!! I can't wait to read book 2!! I actually bought this in paperback a while ago and after reading up to chapter 3, I had to buy the second one too!

Boring storyline (0 more)
Surprisingly boring
The first 20 mins of the movie confused me as i wasn't really sure what was going on. I understood marks girlfriend broke up with him for being too exhausting or something and then he wrote in his blog about her as well as creating a rating site called facemash where girls at uni were rated depending on who was hotter, he was explaining how he got their pictures and uploaded them onto his site which i thought was unnecessary and wasted a good 5-10 minutes of the movie.
Some uni students wanted to turn his facemash idea into a social networking site similar to myspace and friendster based around people at their university with his help which he agreed to do. Instead of doing this though he created his own networking site called facebook which started a dispute with these uni guys claiming he stole their idea and took him to court and the whole movie is basically centered around that. Personally i lost interest very quickly as i found the storyline very boring.

Sick, twisted... Great
1. Martyrs. A sick depraved film, in other words, it was great! Those French bastards strike again! I love that it had an intro from the director apologizing and thanking you for watching his film. From where it begins to where it ends it one crazy fun filled adventure... About a girl, Lucie who escapes the clutches of an evil couple that likes to torture young women, from there she meets Anna, and become very close friends, 15 years pass, and Lucie has tracked down the couple who tortured her and well, you can guess... Lucie also hallucinates just a tad in the form of a woman who was also being held captive... From that point on things get just a little nuts, in a totally good way of course!! What a way to end the countdown, with a pretty sweet sick movie... Acting was superb, felt everything was real, as nasty as it was lol!! But if sick n twisted is your game, and I bet it is, check it out!!! Filmbufftim on FB.
