Ross (3284 KP) rated Elantris: Tenth Anniversary Author's Definitive Edition in Books
Sep 4, 2017
Elantris is probably the best place to start for those of us new to the Cosmere. The story develops at a good pace from a position of a lot of unknowns, but the reveals come at a good pace and are explained without being rammed home.
This is fairly typical Sanderson storytelling/world-building but for me the magic system was not quite as well developed/tangible as those in other worlds of the Cosmere.

Lots of twists
Better than the first series
Well I enjoyed this more than the first series. Each episode was good and had plenty of twists and revelations. The first series felt more up and down between episodes. This time the pacing and plot were much better, with each episode being consistent. The ending was a little weak compared to the rest of the series, but it was still a very good drama.

so this was an interesting read. Parts were a bit confusing but overall I really enjoyed it. I went into it expecting to have rich preppy type people then realized very quickly that Bob wrote about the dives, bars, prostitutes, etc.. It was very well done and fast paced. The writing was superb. The hero was th eoposite of what you normally would think of a hero being and yet it was wonderful.
Better than most thrillers
As a debut book it is a confident stride into novels
Having a journalist AND a girl in a coma as protagonists was a brave move that paid off.
A whodunit that mostly avoids treading the same paths as its peers while not being formulaic - made a refreshing change and reignited my interest in this genre.

A great film with great actors and well directed. I watched the extended edition and it flew by for me despite being close to 3 hours long. It's not as violent or graphic as the likes of Casino, Goodfellas but it is as equally as immersing as those gangster films. The fact it is based on a true story makes it even more interesting. If you like gangster or mafia films you'll love this!

As far as I can remember this was my first Laymon novel. I read it quite a while ago now so I don't remember a great deal about it. I gave it 4 stars as this is the book that got me into reading laymon and I have to say he is one of my favourite authors. I remember being transfixed to this book. It's well written, fast paced and shocking. Great read!
