Charlotte (184 KP) rated Smith's Corner: Alora & Ash (The Heartwood Series #3) in Books
Jan 14, 2022
Book three in the Heartwood series managed to smack me right in the feels!
Each character had their own reasons for their actions and was strong enough to own that. As with all good romance though things don't run smoothly into wedded bliss. Secrets that can't be hidden any longer, disappointment and hurt that needs addressing and trust needs to been earned.
This is a brilliant edition to the Heartwood series and I love the whole family aspect that is always present. The depth of love and loyalty that spills out and encompasses, not only the brothers, but their chose partner is always heart-fluttering to witness.
As always, this is an adult read that deserves chocolate and a cheeky drink while snuggled up on the sofa!

Keith Schroeder is a Lutheran minister from Topeka, Kansas. One Sunday, a man on parole, attends services at his church. The next morning this man, Travis Boyett, comes to Keith and makes a bold confession.
Miles away in Sloan, Texas, Dante Drum an African-American ex-high school football player, sits on death row waiting for his execution. He was accused of raping and murdering the Caucasian cheerleader from his school. From the beginning, Dante has claimed his innocence. But with a forced confession and an eye witness, the execution will go on.
After Travis makes his startling confession to Keith, he tries all that he can to make the situation right.
Will the truth set Dante free??

The characters and storyline are impeccably done and the author's storytelling immediately captivated me. I did not want this story to end and I am beyond thrilled that I was able to read an advance readers copy. As soon as this is available in paperback, I will be purchasing it to add it to my bookshelf as I will be delving into this story again and again.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated The Fifth Witness (Mickey Haller #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Naturally, the book is filled with twists and turns, and the outcome is never really that certain. The characters are great as well, especially Mickey who is so complex. Honestly, it’s so easy to root for him, flaws and all. I did feel the courtroom finagling slowed things down a little at times, especially when it was rehashing things we already knew, but overall, this is another strong book.
