A great read for young adults!!
While this may drag in some places for adults, this is a great book for young adults. It’s very popular in our high school library. The students love following a modern day twist to the original Wizard of Oz. So popular we have a hard time keeping it on the shelf.

"Juliet of the Spirits was something I also saw at a young age. It spooked me, but also kind of turned me on, and I found it thrilling and psychedelic and colorful, and it had an enormous impact on my childhood because I would have bad dreams about it. That’s also the case with The Wizard of Oz."

"Well, the first movie I ever saw was Wizard of Oz, and that was when I kind of realized that movies — almost in a way — existed, that this other world of movies could be my playground too, and that was definitely probably the movie that fascinated me and entranced me with, hence, Hollywood. Not to be cheesy about it."

"The thing about Todd Rundgren is you have to buy into the whole thing. He’s another preposterous artist. He’s insanely talented: great singer, fantastic guitarist, great arranger, and he dances like a ninja. He used to be able to solo while kicking his legs in the air, wearing purple loon pants. I did my foundation year, a one-year course where you decide what you want to do at university, in Winchester. I went to a record shop there, and they were having a sale, and I bought two records: A Wizard, a True Star by Todd Rundgren and Can’t Buy a Thrill by Steely Dan. I had never heard anything like A Wizard in my life. It goes from the spaciness of “International Feel” and suddenly he’s doing a Wizard of Oz song. It was bonkers but it totally primed me for what was next. By that point, I had managed to get all of my friends into him, so everyone was waiting for the next record. I bought Todd when it came out and was like, “whoa!” It’s heavy—some of it is quite unlistenable and annoying, and some of it is absolutely beautiful. That’s Todd Rundgren for you."

"This is when I was at Art School, on foundation, in Winchester. I went early for the term that starts around May, wandered into town and the local record shop was having a sale. There were two records I bought cheap that day: A Wizard, A True Star by Todd Rundgren, and Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan. Those two records I must've listened to a billion times. A Wizard, A True Star is a truly bonkers record. I don't know if someone who didn't know anything about Todd Rundgren could go back and listen to it today and get anything about it. It starts with 'International Feel' with this semi-cosmic synth riff, which goes down through beats into this song with really loud drums on it, and then peters out and suddenly it's the song from The Wizard Of Oz! But that's Rundgren, really. I just sat in my room and listened to it thinking ""this is fantastic!"" Mild hallucinogens may be useful in its appreciation. Mike Barnes, the journalist, is a friend of mine and a few years back we went to see Todd Rundgren play A Wizard, A True Star live in its entirety. And what Mike said about Todd is you just have to go with it, basically. It doesn't make any sense. It goes from the sublime to the ridiculous, and there almost seems to be no taste filter with Todd. There's a book called Todd Rundgren In The Studio, and he's supposed to be this studio wizard but you realise after reading it that he's completely slapdash! He's such a messy producer! He made a huge amount of money out of Bat Out Of Hell, but he got kicked off the project as a producer because they didn't like any of his mixes. But he believed in the project so much he invested in it, and ended up taking a percentage on it and made a fortune from it. That shows that he's someone who is smart but won't necessarily attend to details, and will still maintain goodwill towards a project he's been sacked from. I like that; I admire that."

One of my favourite films at Christmas time. I enjoy follow Dorothy and Toto through her adventure in Oz along with the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man in their search to find the Wizard so they can get a brain, courage, a heart and for Dorothy to go home. Love the munchkins and The good witch. An excellent film for all the family

Rolling Stone's 96th greatest album of all time
Definitely a soundtrack album and not so much an album in its own right. Pinball Wizard is obviously the standout track, by quite some distance. I struggle with a lot of concept albums/soundtracks as trying to force a story into a song tends to result in not that good a song.

"The first book I read was The Wizard of Oz, one lazy summer on my front porch on Randolph Street in New Jersey. I remember being thrilled by the book and the act of reading. Over time my most beloved character became the great and powerful Oz himself…He’s a carny phony, in way over his head, who manages to pull it off anyway."
