"I don’t remember the first time I read Goodbye to All That, but I do know that a little part of me thinks of it whenever I turn on the air conditioner. Didion is a big picture writer and a vital writer (On Self-Respect is required reading for any woman, Sentimental Journeys for any person). She’s a national treasure, but for me it’s the image of her taking a messy bite of a peach on the sidewalk that feels like the Didion I know."

Updated after a reread: it stared slow to me and the imagery is beautiful a very gifted writer. I still liked it and the characters. Up until it ended. Unless she is writing a sequal don't bother.

Great author, the Bugman series are the best! The characters are funny and interesting. Great murder mystery books, also a bit gross, which I like. I wish Tim Downs was still writing books, he's a great writer.

"Her writing has always seemed to transcend her music. It exists in the same world, but it also can be divorced from it and you can just read her books and think, Who is this fascinating writer?"

"The beautiful and concentrated final masterpiece of an utterly original writer, set in early 19th-century Germany. Fitzgerald pays us the compliment of trusting our intelligence and counting on our close attention, which will be overwhelmingly rewarded."
