"This band were in a similar-shaped box to Silver Apples. The nucleus of the band – Joe Byrd – was from an academic background; he was part of the Fluxus movement at the same time as Yoko Ono. He looked like a freak but wasn't druggy. The band were definitely writing lyrics that were less utopian than a lot of the stuff the hippies were writing at the time; there's a subversive edge seeping through the record that's evocative of what was going on in the States at the time – Vietnam, conscription, campus violence, the civil rights movement. You can really imagine this lot playing at a proper happening. A track like 'Love Song For The Dead Ché' is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, whereas some of the rest of it has a real jagged edge, a violence almost, that seems to come from Byrd's more experimental side. It's a very political record. Their second album even more so. I could easily have chosen that; this one just edged it for me today."

Fun and heartwarming
Nick Spalding’s books can always be relied on to be lighthearted and entertaining, and Dumped, Actually is no exception. To be frank, his writing style is basic and uncomplicated, and it’ll never win any awards. However that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.

I decided to read this as it rather reminded me of my doomed relationship last year, and there is a lot in this book that i could relate to about how I felt (and still do). Of course Ollie’s exploits are entirely over the top and farcical, but that’s what makes this book so enjoyable to read and it’s laugh out loud funny in parts. There’s a moment just over half way through that throws the momentum of the book a little, but it’s still very heartwarming and has a lot of feel good moments and messages. Part of the ending is a bit cliched and the writing does get a bit basic at times, but it’s still a rather fun moving book that really got me thinking (and crying).

I found myself grinning and giggling as I read this mythological YA book and had an extremely hard time putting it down. The author's writing style quickly pulls you in and you find yourself falling into the captivating story line enjoying the likeable characters. I highly recommend this hypnotic read.

This is the first book I've read written by this author and I was pleased. The writing style is different to others as it is indicative of someone with a free spirit. The plot is interesting and we get a feel for the places that Talia traveled to. I also loved the growth that this character went through. I had no expectations going into this book and I am happy to say that I look forward to reading the next book.

Brilliant no matter your politics
What a great series this turned out to be. While the Democratic party is in office in this series, both of the main parties are consistently represented and often the independent viewpoint is tossed in too in this dramatic series.

I love the quick dialogue and sophisticated wit. Martin Sheen does a fabulous job portraying the President. The series has drama, scandal, romance, and comedy. Smart entertainment is so refreshing!

Hardgoing!
I really struggled reading this. I veered between hating it and finding it mildly amusing, but picking it up to read was a bit of a feat of willpower. I could have given up (and to be quite honest, I usually do) but I wanted to know what was going to happen to the characters. They were actually quite likeable. I just didn't like the style of writing. So sheer nosiness is the one and only reason why I finished this book!
