Deborah (162 KP) rated Winter Song in Books

Aimed at a young adult audience, this had a little of the feel of the His Dark Materials trilogy. I found it an easy read, and read it in under one day. I was underwhelemed on the whole - I thought the ending was unsatisfying and anti-climactic and most of the characters 2-dimentional and under-developed. Some of it seems pointless and some of it unexplained.

Excellent
Rian Johnson is a genius.
With his directorial debut he crafts an excellent story, that features some of the best young adult actors in recent history. It becomes even more impressive when you realise how few adults feature in the film.
With a mystery that puts you on the edge of your seat, a murder, a drug den and adult themes that most would refrain from showing in this context, this neo-noir is a reminder of what is great about the noir genre.
Expertly filmed, edited and scored, with some beautiful shots that leave you breathless, this film will not disappoint.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Firelight (Firelight, #1) in Books

This is my first young adult dragon shifter book. I've read the first in an adult series but I didn't reckon much to it but this, this was right up my street.
I liked almost everything about it; the description of being a dragon, the characters--though I thought it was a little selfish of her mum and sister to want to do what they were doing to Jacinda, the romance and connection between Jacinda and Will...
That ending has definitely got me wanting to find out what happens next and considering the books are only 99p each currently I think I'm going to go buy them all!

This is a book written for the Young Adult market ... I have to confess that I am a few years past what I would call a young adult ... well, quite a few actually ... but nevertheless I really enjoyed this story and I know I would have loved it when I was a teenager.
This book is The Famous Five on steroids; although there are six of them and no dog! Full of action, thrills and tension but it also explores many of the issues that young people have to face growing up such as mental health, death, grief and relationships but it does so with ease and with sympathy and understanding.
The characters were really well developed and although not all of them I particularly liked, they all felt right somehow. The setting was perfect and so well described that my hair frizzed due to the humidity! The pace was good and the writing style was easy to read so much so that I raced through quite quickly.
This is a great thriller for people of any age even though it is primarily aimed at young adults and I want to thank HQ (an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers) and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

I have wanted to read this book since it was published. I'm in charge of the teens section at the bookstore that I worked at and I fell in love with the cover. I have been pretty excited to see that this book has been on the teen best sellers list since its publication and it definitely didn't disappoint.
The characters were really awesome. I could relate to the characters and I was definitely rooting them on. I loved how flushed out the characters were and the insecurities that presented themselves.
The plot was definitely fun. I loved how many twists and turns there were and was not able to guess what was going to happen next (which is usually the case with young adult books).
Ultimately, this book was amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Young Adult fantasy books.

Kristy H (1252 KP) rated Twilight (Twilight, #1) in Books

Young adult novel about a teen who moves to a small town in Washington and falls in love with a vampire... I enjoyed it (and this isn't my normal reading fare), but couldn't past the terrible writing, lack of character development, and clunky passages that just made me cringe. If it had been better developed and written, it would have been a total winner, because it still had me spellbound.

Almost very good
Another young adult book by Matt Haig, The Dead Father's Club is a reimagining of Hamlet. Even with serious issues, Haig likes to keep tongue in cheek and fill his books with fun and here's another one. A boys dad died and joins The Dead Father's Club, should he listen to his dad and kill his uncle or does his dad's ghost even exist?

Toni Lynn Donald (1997 KP) rated Quest For Camelot (1998) in Movies

One of my favorite animated movies. Lots of adventure, comedy and good songs. I think this would be a good movie for a child or adult I guess who lacks confidence. It is about a blind young guy, a girl and a 2 headed dragon who go on an adventure to find the sword Excalibur. The 2 headed dragon is so funny! The 2 main characters have a great backstory too.
