This installment is very different as the film's tone is quite dark and the story is that of spies and espionage which is a bold move and direction for Marvel that pays off handsomely and makes for an intense and thrilling watch.
This is up there as one of the best sequels in the genre and is a must see.

Disclaimer: All of the movies in Phase 2 of the MCU are nearly the same. Winter Soldier's just my favorite out of all of them.
One: I like Anthony Mackie as Falcon, he's a great addition to the MCU. Two: Scarlett Johansson was the perfect partner in this edition. I wasn't thrilled when they 'killed' Bucky off in The First Avenger, so I was all for Bucky returning as the Winter Soldier. It's a tightly paced film, and it's a good Captain America film.

Better than the first film
It is probably getting difficult to tell the difference between some of the solo Marvel films from the Avengers series, but this is another solid entry in the Marvel universe. I found it more action packed and with a better story than the first Capt America film.

I’ve always said that the best Marvel films are the ones that feature a different genre, rather than just ‘superhero movie’. Case in point with The Winter Soldier. Directed by the Russo brothers, this second outing for the First Avenger is almost heist-like in its presentation.
With a great cast and some absolutely breath-taking action sequences, it remains one of the very best films in the MCU with very few negatives. If I had to criticise, I’d say that Henry Jackman’s score is a little forgettable but this is a very small point in a film filled with surprises.

Detailed character building
Great casting
Excellent follow on
MCU takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions as you follow Steve Rogers trying to settle into modern day life. We are introduced to Sam AKA Falcon who becomes a major character in the MCU and an old face is brought back.
Steve has to decide who he can trust, while dealing with the reveal of who the Winter Soldier actually is.
While Bucky Barnes was Steve's oldest friend and protector while growing up in the first movie, we see Steve gain a supportive and understanding friend in Sam, someone who can see beyond the superhero, to the man behind the shield.
The ending of this one, while leaving a few loose ends naturally, has a much better overall feel to it
