2016 | Biography
Having moved to the hustle and bustle of London from Jamaica, Gloria Ifill found her initial attempt to settle into British life quite an experience - equating the overwhelming cultural differences and dramatic change in weather to leaving Earth and moving to Mars. Providing readers with an authentic insight into growing up in Jamaica in the 40s and 50s, Gloria shares her experiences of the rigorous importance of discipline and respect at home and at school, and the ramifications of not adhering to the rules. Having moved to London in the 1960s, Gloria attended Lewisham College, taking part in late evening sessions to study English, typing and shorthand. Echoes of the Past details the rich history of how life was compared to how it is now, which will put a smile on the face of anyone who looks back at Britain with fond memories. Gloria Ifill was born and brought up in Jamaica, where her mother was an officer in the Salvation Army. From an early age, her ambition was to be a nurse, having emigrated to London to fulfil her dream. Gloria has since worked for the National Health Service for a number of years.
