the legend that holds up
Contains spoilers, click to show
I feel like this movie is one of those legends in a lot of ways. So many people love it, I've heard so many great things over the years and I've just never watched it. Not because I haven't been interested, but because I've never actively looked. Who knew it took a worldwide pandemic for me to watch.

I really enjoyed this film. I love Bill Murray - I think he is a phenomenal actor and so funny. I love his character in the movie. At first, he is so easy to hate, it's so clear he's just a bad guy. He's the guy that everyone knows in real life and you're just like, "really? you again?" and you end up feeling exhausted after talking to them because they're just the worst. But as you go through the film, you go through all the emotions and events and frustrations that he's feeling. You see the pain and the devastation, the breaking points, the good things, the bad things, the really crazy things (running into that huge groundhog after that car chase), and you feel it all with him. I don't think there are movies that often that make you feel that and I always love when they do.

I think, overall, the cast is great. I don't have any particular complaints about anyone, but nobody stands out to me as much as Bill because he just nailed it. I definitely think this is a film I'll come back to over and over again.

This is a genuine classic, it's often imitated never duplicated.

So many movies & shows have pinched the idea to create another success.

Worshiped at our house!
When grumpy weatherman Bill Murray is forced to relive the same day In Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania over and over until he fulfills some sort of prophecy or at least hopefully gets the girls of his dreams, the result is one of the most hilarious quotable comedies of all time.

It's hard to know exactly how long Phil Connors was there in total; however, since he was a master pianist by the end, you would almost have to assume several years.

Every scene is great fun including the masterful Stephen Tobolowsky as everyone's favorite insurance salesman, Ned Ryerson.

My family loves this movie so much, we drove 3 hours to Woodstock, Illinois to where the movie was filmed and took the "Groundhog Tour". I even bought a t-shirt.

This movie is one of a kind.

The fact it covers depression (0 more)
Groundhog Day
Phil who’s played by Bill Murray is a smug and selfish weatherman who has no choice but to live through the same day over and over again until he learns the value of caring about others. Though on the whole a lighthearted comedy, this movie also deals with depression, and Phil undertakes a series of suicide attempts. Characters drink at bars, and in a scene in which three characters are shown getting drunk in a bowling alley, one of the characters attempts to drive a car while clearly drunk. Which again emphasises how wrong it is to drink and drive.

I agree that it is a much deeper film than it first appears or than I remember it being. It doesn't just teach being a nicer person, it explores what makes a person that way in the first place.

What A day
A weather man who has been sent to cover the famous groundhog day in Punxatony PA ends up reliving the day over and over and over. He goes through many different personalities from depressed, suicidal, greatful and just plain honorable. He realizes that he has something missing from his life and he tries many different ways to make that gap complete. A great fun movie that can be watched over and over

Over hyped
An ok comedy but considering the love for this film I expected it to be a lot funnier. The repetition actually starts to drag after a while.
