The Avengers - Season 6

The final season of The Avengers experienced a lot of behind-the-scenes turbulence, with a new format, sudden changes of production team, and relentless deadlines resulting in a very inconsistent tone (and, many would say, wildly variable quality).

On-screen the biggest change is the arrival of Linda Thorson as Steed's new partner (maybe more of a sidekick) Tara King, along with Patrick Newell as Mother, their boss. The initial directive was to make the show 'more serious' and while this move was soon abandoned, only a few episodes of this run feature the kind of sci-fi gimmicks which characterised the previous year.
