One of my favourite things in The Confusion of Languages were the vivid descriptions of life in Jordan for the locals, their societal norms and values and the culture in general.

A must-read for those following the series, but not a good starting introduction to it. Everything I love about the series is here - the humor, the repartee, the pop culture and mythological references, you name it. Atticus even tells the story of how he came to know how to make ImmortaliTea.

"Of course, the black body exists within a wider black culture — one Hurston portrayed with grace and insight in this seminal novel. She defies racist Americans who would standardize the cultures of white people or sanitize, eroticize, erase or assimilate those of blacks."

This was my third viewing of The Last Samurai and I can only express how much this film improves everything I watch it. The story is beautiful, moving, and does an excellent job of showing Japanese culture in a beautiful and interesting way.

"A cultural analysis and breakdown of Manhattan specifically, and the physical attributes as well as social needs that defined New York’s iconic and exportable look. The culture of congestion, by now largely surpassed by Asian and South American cities, defines Manhattanism as the goal for the contemporary city… in 1978."

"This novel narrates the trajectory of one of last century’s most famous bullfighters, El Cordobés. The interesting point in the narrative of the book is the interpolation of the great bullfight in Madrid—where he will receive what is called the ‘alternativa’ (that is, become a fully fledged bullfighter)—with the story of his life and of the bullfighting culture."

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher file in exchange for an honest review.

Cara Robertson dug really deep into the Borden trial. The details are exquisitely laid out from beginning to end. not only is this book a fascinating look at the trial itself but also the culture of the time.

"Cinematic candy. You want to eat, sing, and dance in the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro. The colors and fabrics, the language and music and people and culture, are all so vibrant and beautiful. The story is a retelling of the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, done with such beauty and imagination. This is one for the ages"

Read for Judah's school. Too much focus on him being a misbehaving child. Ya, he had consequences he had to deal with. But just didn't sit well with me. Maybe I'm crazy. But I di like the intro into the Chinese culture for Judah.
