Aasiyah Sidat (34 KP) rated Ms. Marvel: Volume 2: Generation Why in Books
Jul 9, 2018
Unbelievable!
So just a quick recap, this series is all about Kamala Khan, a Muslim teenager from Jersey city. She goes through everything a teenager with strict parents go through, worrying about curfew and what would happen if your parents found out you were a mask-wearing, cape-flying superhero with powers. The concept is original and I loved that there was a very unique protagonist with a relatable storyline so I was really excited to find out about the next adventure Kamala would embark on.
Unfortunately, I was not impressed.

Beth Ingham (28 KP) rated The Bear and the Nightingale in Books
Jul 9, 2018
Strong female protagonist (1 more)
Reminiscent of Grimm Fairytales
Favourite book read in 2018 (so far!)
The first thing I have to say about this book is wow. I went into it not knowing what to expect but was completely blown away by the storyline of Vasya as she navigates becoming a young woman who is powerful, in a time when women were not; whilst using old school magic to try to help her people.
The Russian folklore gives this book a modern fairytale feel, however the darkness echoes that of the original Grimm Fairytales.
Altogether, this is a very well written epic, not to be missed, and that I very much enjoyed.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Hotel Artemis (2018) in Movies
Jul 29, 2018
Hotel Artemis (2018) is perfect for a short stay. #Review
I approached “Hotel Artemis” with an uneasy trepidation, born out of learning that it ran for a trim (these days) 96 minutes. My reasoning was simple: usually a high-concept star-powered action thriller that runs around the hour and a half mark is a sign of something going wrong and a desperate attempt to save the film in the editing suite. I needn’t have worried because if that is the case, I couldn’t see the joins. Drew Pearce’s feature film directorial debut is a lean, linear slice of action cinema with some terrific performances...

Stratus by Miranda Brock
“I felt certain if I peered into them long enough I would see lightning flash in their depths ”
Stratus begins with our leading lady Lily who gets hit by lightning during a particular furious storm. She is surprised to see a gorgeous man lying next to her who introduces himself as Stratus. Lily find herself inexplicably drawn to the mysterious Stratus at the dismay of her friends and family. As the story continues questions about Stratus’s origins are answered as well as how he and Lily are tied together.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Venom (2018) in Movies
Oct 3, 2018
I guess you just can't polish a turd, no matter how windy it is... Venom (2018) #Review
The most puzzling thing about “Venom” is that if Sony was determined to make this film, this exact story, they already had a movie they could call it a sequel to without pissing away yet another of their Marvel IPs that look increasingly like hostages rather than assets. I’m talking about “Life”, and it would have provided a better foundation for the story than this clumsy and inept attempt which sees Sony's would-be Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse telling Universal’s Dark Universe to hold its beer....

This is a great podcast to listen to to hear a wide variety of new books coming out from a wide variety of genres. The hosts are great and know what they're talking about, while being fun to listen to. It's only a half an hour, so that can be both a good and bad thing, depending on how long you like your podasts, but hey, there are 185 shows to listen to! (as of 11/23/2018) Good listening. :)
