I have to admit, I hated this book when I first read it. I was a victim of forced reading in my seventh grade class and I definitely hated anything that I was forced to read.
I was a little hesitant to reread this book for my book club but I am definitely glad that I did. This book was really interesting. There were many things that I didn't understand when I first read it that now resound with me. The characters are intriguing and this definitely paints a picture of what society used to be like.
If you're looking for a racially charged book that makes your question society, this is the book for you. It forces you to look at a society that we all try and hide from. I'm glad that I reread it.

This is so cute! There’s not much I can say in a review for this since it is basically a novelty picture book, but I loved it.
There’s a cute little illustration of a hug on every page and I just find it really heartwarming. It’s one of my go-to feel-good books that will always cheer me up as well – I just have to flick to a random page for a smile.
I love that there’s little quotes mixed in as well. It’s just such a loving little book and would make a great present to anyone

I like this book a lot, you don't see many lesbian-themed YA books out there. I'm 26 but I missed out on youth fiction geared toward me as a youth. I had vampire books, that's about it. :/ anyway, pros: it was well written, truthful, and heartfelt. Cons: I did not like the Main Character's Dialogue. She sounded very juvenile for her age and spoke in a way I'd never heard myself as a 17 year old (half) tortillera. All in all I enjoyed the story, I liked the characters and I liked the ending. :)

When I initially flipped through Laon at the library, I thought it would be a much different story. I'm still glad that I read it, but the majority of book 1 was more on the "cute" side than I expected. It did change courses toward the end of book 1, when the action started happening. So, I am glad that I gave it a try. It's still worth a read since it goes fairly quickly. I look forward to reading book 2, since the story has gotten a bit darker and more complex!

Sigh. I'm now grieving the loss of dear friends, left with only memories. No more new adventures to look forward too. I devoured this trilogy and now I wish I'd paced myself because they're all finished and I'm left empty. As much as I love a good book, a book that sucks me in and makes me feel so much a part of the magic, I hate that last page where I know it's goodbye. Thank you, Cynthia Hand, for a wonderful trilogy that I know I will relive over and over.

DNF @ 30%.
I have a thing for escorts/sexworkers and I honestly expected to like this more, with it being a male porn star, but I couldn't get into it at all. I've read a few books where the characters were in porn and I liked all the others more. It just didn't grab me emotionally or physically. I felt no connection to the characters in that first third of the book and I don't see much point in finishing a book when I feel like that, hence my DNF.
