Disney started to make live action movie of their classics quite long time ago. Aladdin was my favourite (along side with the Lion King) and I was a bit worried about this live action. I went to the cinema and Disney did it again. I was a child again for all the movie, laughing and enjoying every single scene. Was a really nice surprise. The songs were brilliant, the cast amazing, Will Smith exceptional. The only thing I didn't like it was Jafar. He didn't really convinced me.

Girl power
Another Charlie's Angels film for the next generation. I'm not sure we really need this but Hollywood does seem short on ideas. Kinda of a mish mash up of Mission Impossible, James Bond and Bourne Identity. Nothing new to see here, some ok action scenes, silly plot but not as much humour as I was expecting. Naomi Scott who was recently in Aladdin stands out the most of a likable cast. Looking uncannily like Sarah Michelle Gellar from Cruel Intentions my friend pointed out.
So overall not a bad film, just not a good memorable one either. Wait for it to come online.

Book Review by Cari Mayhew. Rating 7/10.
This book is a much darker retelling of Disney’s Aladdin, and is the first in a series of darker Disney retellings! It starts off pretty much the same as the film – Princess Jasmine meets petty thief “Street Rat” Aladdin while sneaking out of the Palace, and later the conniving Jafar tricks Aladdin into obtaining the lamp - but things go a whole lot worse once Jafar gets hold of it!
Jafar wishes himself to be made the Sultan, and the most powerful sorcerer of the world. But that’s not enough – Jafar seeks to break the genie’s rules of magic, in order to bring the dead back to life to raise an army of the undead! Jafar kills the former Sultan and declares he wants to wed Princess Jasmine, who, meanwhile, meets up with the Street Rats to lead a full-on rebellion. They attempt to intercept the delivery of magic book sought by Jafar, but things don’t go according to plan!
Braswell imitates the original Disney tale for the first third of the book and really fleshes it out with scene description and attention to Aladdin’s and Jasmine’s thoughts. Some of these scenes are different, yet the first half remains very true to the original. After this point the action really heats up!
The genie took a less prominent role in the latter part of the book than he did in the film. The inclusion of more minor characters added a depth to the novel that was missing in the film, and allowed the underlying themes to develop. There was a strong theme on the grey area between right and wrong, and how doing a minor wrong can help the greater good.
Fortunately (IMO) the book didn’t include the lyrics to the musical numbers! Unfortunately, however, the book is only available in paperback. Some of the story was predictable, including how it ended, but there was the odd surprise in there - all in all, I feel this book has got the Twisted Tales series off to a great start!

A Whole New World For A New Generation
Aladdin is a 2019 live-action film adaptation of the 1992 Disney animated movie. It was directed by Guy Ritchie, who wrote the screenplay with John August. The movie is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Rideback, and Marc Platt Productions and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Marwan Kenzari.
Living in the desert kingdom of Agrabah, Aladdin (Mena Moussad), along with Abu, his pet monkey, befriend and rescue Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott), when she is caught giving bread to poor children. Meanwhile, growing tired of being "second" in power to the Sultan, Jafar (Marwen Kenzari), the Royal Vizier, along with his parrot Iago seek a magic lamp hidden within the Cave of Wonders.
This movie was really good and a really awesome adaptation of the original Disney animated film. It stayed very faithful to the original and changed very little, also it added somethings, like an original song that Jasmine sang. At first I was "if-ey" about Will Smith being cast as the Genie, but I have to say he did a real good job. Mena Massoud who played Aladdin also gave an excellent performance. I was a little disappointed in the way they went with Jafar's character but not as upset as I was with this film's version of Iago. The original had Gilbert Godfrey, who was extremely funny albeit a little annoying, but this Iago was just terrible. The costumes were great and even the musical numbers of dancing and singing were really good. My favorite was the Prince Ali song/dance. I have to say I wasn't too happy with some of the changes and what they left out. At certain times the direction veered from the plot of the original and the pacing felt off but a lot of it lead to some very comedic scenes. I liked the inclusion of the character of Jasmine's hand maiden played by Nasim Pedrad, she looked very pretty and was very funny. And I thought the CGI looked good, however some critics complained that it brought nothing new to the film. I give this movie a 7/10.

Probably the best of the live-action-versions-we-did-not-need
I'm not 100% sure I have seen the animated Aladdin all the way through in one sitting. I have definitely seen the start a number of times and have seen all the other bits, but never in a oner. I love the opening half hour of that film, the Arabian Nights opening and One Jump Ahead are great scene-setters. After that I do tend to drift off and enjoy the film less.
Here it was somewhat the opposite. While the opening scenes were still good, they paled in comparison to the animated version, and the scene meeting the genie was nowhere near as good. From there on, however, I really enjoyed the film. There are no points where it drags, and there is enough comedy and plot to keep everyone entertained.
I appreciated Will Smith's take on the genie and quite enjoyed his version of the role, not trying to replicate Robin Williams' epic performance. The CGI on him, however, may be the worst since Superman's moustache. It actually reminded me of the Scorpion King, it was that bad.
The rest of the cast are pretty strong, with a new star in Jasmine and Aladdin, and while Jafar was overly hammy he wasn't too bad.
I especially enjoyed Iago's Drogon impression near the end of the film.

Robin Williams is fantastic in Aladdin during the 1990's Disney Renaissance
This film just makes me melancholic now watching the sheer genius Robin Williams as the Genie. To improvise the character to such an extent just goes to show Williams' incredible talent.
The animation itself is the first time to feature a non-white Disney princess, hence it is important to show the significance of characters from BAME backgrounds. It's disappointing to hear that the movie version is going to be whitewashed.
It is funny, clever, and is part of the 'Disney Renaissance' - a hip new sensibility to animated features and which still stands up in the age of Pixar and DreamWorks thanks largely to RW.

Disney's continuing plundering of their back catalogue (see also: Beauty and the beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Cinderella …) continues with this latest attempt to turn their 1940s cartoon original into a live action movie.
It doesn't really work.
Starring, for once, a pretty 'armless (sorry not sorry) Colin Farrell, this crams the story of Dumbo (circus elephant, learns how to fly, lives happily ever after …) into roughly the first 30 minutes or so, before going off on its own tangent (for that, at least, it needs lauded), and introducing both Michael Keaton's circus businessman alongside Eva Green's aerial trapeze artist.
Ironically, however, I found the movie never really takes off at all!
