Amazon Prime's adaptation of the Fallout games, although - having never played any of those games - I cannot say how close (or otherwise) it sticks to the source material.

It's primarily post apocalyptic set, a kind of retro future in that it starts in an alternate 1960s and then jumps on 200 odd years, with Ella Purnell the main lead of the story as she ventures aboveground from Vault 33 for the first time in her life in search of her kidnapped father.

Of course, things are not always as they seem ...

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The beginning starts with a mystery that leaves you excited to discover what it means. I was worried that I wouldn't be satisfied with the solution or that the ending would disappoint me enough that the book wouldn't be enjoyable. I was wrong on all counts. The book delightfully sets up an alternate universe with interesting parallels to our own. The magic system is creative, novel, and well-explained. Finally, the characters are well-rounded, three-dimensional, and fun. I enjoyed every minute of it- couldn't put it down!

Individual characters and strong female lead! (0 more)
Amazing first book in the series!
The guys are all so individual and amazing. Completely different from any characters in any other book I've read. Laurel has created this fabulous alternate reality that I could only wish to be a part of. Carlyle is this beautiful strong female lead and you can really tell Laurel loves her character as you read the story. This book sets the tone for the whole series and if you've read the other books, you will know she just keeps up the standard the whole way through.

"Sadly, this Criterion edition isn’t available anymore on DVD, but back in the nineties this was my quintessential laserdisc (along with the Criterion lasers for Boogie Nights and Taxi Driver). This was the only place you could get a commentary track by Rob Reiner as well as an alternate commentary track with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer out of character. It also contained the original twenty-minute demo reel Spinal Tap: The Final Tour and the band’s first performance on TV five years before making the film. Thank God I still have my laserdisc player!"
