Daisy Jones & the Six
Daisy Jones & the Six
Taylor Jenkins Reid | 2019 | Fiction & Poetry
I adored this book.
It's so completely different from anything I've recently read. I do love my psychological thrillers, but sometimes it's nice to jump into a totally different world. Daisy Jones & The Six perfectly fits the bill.

There's been so much hype surrounding this book that I'm sure you know the premise by now: set in the mid-sixties through late seventies, Daisy Jones & The Six is about the rise and eventual fall of a fictional rock band. It reads like a Rolling Stone interview, or an episode of Behind the Music, which is an interesting and effective approach to the subject matter. I was immediately immersed in the story, but this also means I flew through it so quickly that I was sad when it was over. It drew me in so completely that I actually forgot this was not a real band.

Sex? ✔ Drugs? ✔ Rock 'n' Roll? ✔
Daisy Jones & The Six has all this and more. I've heard that it bears more than a passing resemblance to Fleetwood Mac's history, which makes sense as the author herself states that she was very much influenced by Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks (a living goddess if there ever was one). Every character is flawed, because, life. The descriptions of the songs, the music, are so complete, I could almost hear them in my head.

Last summer, Amazon ordered a 13-episode limited series of the book. The series will be co-produced by Amazon Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner. ALSO: Amazon will be distributing original music from the television adaptation exclusively through Amazon Music. ?

It was such a good book and read like a Rolling Stones interview. I was hooked from the first page and devoured the book after that. It was so goooood. I really hope there's a sequel.

After Amazon music took the radio stations and made them only available to Amazon music subscribers, I had to find another app to listen to music while at work. So, I logged into Pandora for the first time in 6 years. Whomever came up with the algorithms needs to be straight up fired and never hired anywhere, ever again. I have different stations for a reason, if I wanted to listen to Kings of Leon, I'd listen to the station I have, I do not want to hear them on my The Cure station. It's so frustrating, and they do have the absolute worst commercials I've ever had to suffer through. I end up taking out my earbuds during them so I don't have to listen to lame Taco Bell commercials.

Fifty Shades of Deja vu
Spotted this on Amazon prime based on a a series of books I believe. I didn't realise this was the 2nd film in a series, not made clear at all on Amazon. It did keep referencing things that happened before you wouldn't know about. So I would suggest seeing After first..... But maybe just skip both.
This felt like a young adults version of Fifty Shades of Grey.. Just without the millionaire and for 15 rating. There really doesn't seem to be much of a plot as such. Despite the opening telling you this isn't a story you've seen before... It's exactly that and very clichéd at times. Ok cast and obviously had a fair budget for this but After you'll forget it quickly.

This book was for a younger audience however I did enjoy it. It was easy reading and reminded me of my days at school. So I would say the intended audience was probably teenagers who are going through school. They would probably be really able to relate. I would recommend this book to this audience.
The blurb grabbed my attention but it was a shame the story didn't end when the book did. I wanted to read the full details of how Ray became disabled as we were only teased with a bit of information about it in this book. The books are only available on Amazon and I have a Kobo so am unable to read them. Kobo do not support Amazon books.
The author's writing helped each character have their own personality which helped distinguish each character. Their personalities shone though.
The character's changed slightly throughout the book. This looks to be all down to Ray but also people change as they go through the school year and when new people come into their friendship group.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

This new Tycoon, by Amazon Studios and Tri-Star Television, is a winner on all counts. For admirers of Fitzgerald’s book – not to mention those who think “they don’t make them like they used to” – this show is a must-see.
