Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated Galaxy Quest (1999) in Movies

Galaxy Quest, the second viewing, this is the voyage of my movie watching. I explored Amazon, to seek out new movies, and I boldly went where I've already been before. I remember watching this when it first came out. I didn't remember liking it all that much then to be honest, but glad I gave it another watch this morning because I really enjoyed it this time around. I think being older and having been to several conventions now I got the humor more than I did when I was younger. Definitely recommend giving Galaxy Quest another watch if it's been awhile for you too or if you've never seen it. To infinity and beyond, oh wait, wrong Tim Allen space captain movie.

Want to start by saying there will be spoilers here in my review for those who haven't seen the film. Okay what can I say was it worth the wait yes three lockdowns cinemas closing and everything else there was a point where I didn't think I was going to see the movie is it as good as the original yes coulda been shorter than 2 and half hours but that's my only gripe overall excellent performances from the cast especially kristen Wigg who almost steals it from gal gadot would I watch again yes just wished I had seen it on the big screen in IMAX instead on Amazon prime

Good ensemble cast drama
A weird drama currently on Amazon Prime with a big cast line up. Including Nicole Kidman, Luke Evans, Melissa McCarthy and Samara Weaving to name a few. They all go to a wellness centre in a remote location to deal with their various issues. Is everything as it seems as Marsham (Kidman) who leads the retreat hand picked this group for other reasons. Her unconventional methods start to panic the group.
A decent drama with so many good actors on show. I did feel there would be a bizarre twist out of left field totally unexpected. However it never quite goes that extreme.
OK for a short series to distract you for a while.

Endearing characters
Fun, but not amazing
Black as night is an Amazon movie, about vampires causing havoc in the predominantly poor black community in New Orleans.
It follows a young girl, who after suffering a family tragedy for to vampiric influence, decides to get her Buffy on and take vengeance.
It's a fun Blumhouse film, but it's made almost for quite a young audience (like, too young to actually watch it). Some of the characters are good, but the narration from the protagonist throws the feeling of the film off for me, and I don't know why.
All in all, it's not bad, and worth a watch, but it's by no means a good vampire film.

David McK (3562 KP) rated Elementary - Season 1 in TV

A modern-day transplantation of Sherlock to the States, released roughly aroudn the same time as the-also-contemporary-set-BBCs-Sherlock and also starring Lucy Liu as Doctor Joan Watson (instead of Jim Watson) alongside Johnny Lee Millers Sherlock, I was one of those who couldn't quite see the point of this when it first came out.
Well, that, and because it wasn't easily viewable in the UK, until I recently came across it on Amazon Prime.
Having new seen season 1, I do have to say that - while enjoyable enough in its own right, and while lifting some aspects of the Sherlock tales (Moriarity and Irene Adler being the big 2) - I still feel that there is little in common with source.
