Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
1967 | Experimental

"Whoever it was that said this album didn't sell a lot of copies but every person who bought it went on to form a band, I think there is probably some truth in that. It is such an influential record; such a truly unique, maverick record and it's one of the records I play more than anything else. I often go back to it now - I will just feel like needing to hear 'Venus In Furs'. It still sounds weirdly modern considering it was made in the sixties. I love the whole way The Velvet Underground went about things - John Cale playing viola, Nico singing on some of the songs and Lou singing on others. It has a feel to it that is unlike anything and nobody has really touched for originality since then. It sounds so strange - it was made in New York during a period that has the whole mystique of Andy Warhol’s Factory. It's also one of the great album covers of our time – Warhol’s peeling banana. I knew Andy very well throughout the eighties until he sadly died. That whole scene was so stylish and underground - they had the perfect name. I've been lucky enough over the years to meet John Cale a bunch of times and Lou Reed - I sat next to Lou at a dinner a few months back - and to me they are still great icons of modern music. We actually played with Lou onstage once in the late eighties. We did a charity show and he came and played 'Sweet Jane' and 'Walk On The Wild Side' with us, which was surreal. We have covered 'Femme Fatale' - we could cover the entire album but it wouldn't be nearly as good so there's no point."

Masterpiece
Toy Story 2 picks up right where it left off packing the same creativity from the first film. It's an absolute marvel from start to finish, a film that not only checks all the boxes but touches you on every level. I found myself laughing way harder than someone should've after multiple watches. Is it perfect? Maybe not, but it's damn close.

If the animation was groundbreaking in the original movie, Toy Story 2 surpasses that by taking it up to new heights. Spectacular doesn't even begin to define it. Colors are more vibrant. Movements are more crisp. The attention to detail in every single frame is unreal.

Success also comes from a number of clever moments sprinkled throughout the film. In one scene, the gang is driving a toy car down an aisle being led by Barbie while Rex is chasing after them. He gets closer and closer to their rearview mirroring a very similar moment in Jurassic Park. It was terrifying in the dinosaur film, but hilarious in this context.

With such a fun film, you never expect your feelings to get caught up in it but they do. You feel heartbroken for Woody (Tom Hanks) when Andy feels he has to leave him behind while Andy goes to Cowboy Camp. Woody was so excited to be chosen to go and he's devastated when Andy decides to leave him.

I can't think of anything to dislike about the film as a whole. It's a fun ride to remember about a toy trying to find himself and his place in the world. You'll love everything from the old characters to the new dog who is just plain adorable. Welcome to my All-Time Top Ten, Toy Story 2. Hope you enjoyed the stay, Safety Not Guaranteed. We have another well-deserved 100.

Child's play- in my mind is okay. I didnt like a lot of things in the movie. Spoiler alert if you havent seen it.

1. Chucky himself- when you first get a look at chucky your like disgust but also terrifying. He was creepy but also wired to look at. Everytime he was on screen i has a nasty feelling in my stomach.

2. Chucky's sense of humor- whenever chucky is about the kill someone, he says a one liner that doesnt go through. I understand that the studio was trying to have some of the old chucky's sense of humor in this new one, but it failed.

3. No don mancini and no brad dourif- those two alone are the keyholeders of chucky. Don mancini created chucky and directed three of the chucky movies and brad dourif voiced chucky in the pervious movies. I dont mind mark hamli, but chucky is not the same with these two involded.

4. The charcters, expecy for andy- i could care less about the rest of the chacters, andy was the only chatcter the i cared about in the movie.

Other than those i thought child's play was okay. Not great, just okay.

Hauntingly poignant, such a great exploration into loneliness
Such a fabulously enticing book exploring the 1970's and 1980's New York scene while revealing the writer's own issues of dealing with loneliness. From the introvert but flamboyant Andy Warhol, to the artist David Wojnarowicz's AIDS activism, Olivia Laing brings to light the spaces between people and the things that draw them together.

The chapters on painter Edward Hopper and Henry Darger are particularly poignant, especially as Darger was practically invisible, and only known after his death as his paintings were discovered in his accommodation. The author's own story remains mysterious. The book epitomises loneliness, despite the bright lights of the big city.

I liked the book better. (Haha, Andy Kubica). However, I really did like the movie, as well, for completely different reasons. I loved the book on its own, and always will. The movie, though, was such a fun treat to watch! I wasn't sure how it would go, but it definitely looked like a video game with all of the cool colors and graphics, and you can't beat the music! I wasn't sure that I'd like how they did Art3mis, but I really did. The movie character was cute and smart. The stacks were exactly as I'd pictured, so that was also fun to see. It's definitely worth watching in my opinion! It's a great 1.5 hr ride!

The chemistry between Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler (2 more)
It's unbelievably unique, you won't get this film confused with anything else
If you have a wide sense of humour, it's actually really funny.
It has such cringy moments (2 more)
It's dirtier than necessary doesn't need to be so crude.
Adam Sandler's voice drives me crazy in this.
Crass but had it's funny moments
This movie is good, it's just a very crude film. The story itself is based on a rude event, so yeah. If you're of a nervous disposition don't watch it lol. Despite the crudeness it does have some hilarious moments and has some fab actors in it, also a random cameo!!

Contraband- is a decent action heist thriller. It has a good cast. Its a intresting movie.

The plot: Ex-smuggler Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) gave up his criminal ways long ago. But, he's forced back into the game after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for a crime lord (Giovanni Ribisi), leaving Chris to settle the debt. With the help of his best friend (Ben Foster), Chris assembles a team to run to Panama to retrieve a fortune in counterfeit bills. When things go awry, Chris must call on his rusty skills to complete the task before his family pays the price.

Like i said before is good.

There's a clear divide about this film, as was very evident about the feedback. In almost all instances the women loved it and the men hated it. And in this instance (like some others... don't get me started ;) ) men are wrong. With four fantastic actresses they would have had to do a really terrible job for this to come out as a bad film.

When this one comes out on DVD I will be pairing it with First Wives Club and having a very entertaining evening in front of the box.

It's a solid comedy, with some romance thrown in... and woman or man... you'll finish watching that film and be a little in love with Andy Garcia.

To Infinity and Beyond?
Toy Story spinoff featuring one of their most famous characters, here voiced by Chris Evans rather than Tim Allen.

Cue card at the start of the film states something along the lines that 'In 1995, a bit called Andy received a new toy based on his favourite movie. This is that movie'.

So, we have what is in effect a prequel of sorts - this version of Buzz is not a toy, nor is there and Woody or any of the other gang from those films. Instead, we have a very obviously Star Wars/Star Trek inspired movie, with a few twists along the way and some (as expected) drop dead gorgeous animation!
